upgrading TC electronic BG250 208 speakers

Ok, maybe a silly question, but I'm trying to improve the sound of my TC BG250 208. This little amp is very good about portability, connections, reliability and price. ideal for practice at home, not so bad for jazz 4tet/5tet in small clubs, at low volume setting, with good acoustics, but with the volume over noon the sound tends to be boomy and not well defined. Ok its price tag is low, but I wondering if someone has upgraded its speakers to obtain more denifinition.

Very often “upgrades” like this end up in a fail. I would leave well enough alone.

Rebooting this old thread. I just ordered 2 - Celestion neodymium, 8 ohm speakers for mine. Going to replace the 2 factory 16 ohm speakers (that have ceramic magnets).

I have 2 goals in mind (and 1 nice to have goal):
1 - Have the head run at 250 watts (vs 175 watts).
2 - Make a light combo even a bit lighter.
3 (nice to have goal) - possibly get an improvement in sound.
I realize that I'll lose the ability to run an external cab (however, I'm good with that as I habe other larger rigs that are still quite portable).

Will let all of you know how it goes.

I doubt you'll save a noticeable amount of weight as the stamped-frame, ceramic OEM drivers don't weigh all that much in the first place. What Celestion driver are you using?

Here are the drivers. There was a buzz coming from one of my factory drivers, so I had to replace one no matter what, so I figured, why not just make the whole combo run at 4 ohm (I won't ever be using an extension w this) and possibly save a few pounds...

In addition to the link to the drivers I purchased, as an update, I installed them. Can't say for sure if I'm getting more volume (as it seems in the same ballpark as memory serves), however, I am getting more clarity. The old drivers were a bit darker with almost a bit of natural distortion in them. These are much more clean while still having the lows in-tact. A worthy upgrade for sure!!!! Oh, and the new drivers were somewhere around 2 lbs lighter each, so the combo is now roughly 4 lbs lighter. I can definitely feel it when lifting it. Win-win!
