UPS got me sweating a bit

Why so serious?

East Coast, USA
I ordered a ridiculously cool bass last Monday. It's coming from Washington state, all the way across to the East Coast. On Tuesday, the UPS tracking said "Departed from Facility" and hasn't updated since.

I contacted the seller and he told me that UPS has recently been bad about updating tracking as it progresses to its destination. I've never experienced this. Anyone else?

(Yes, yes, I know. I'm being impatient and probably a little bit paranoid. That's part of the experience... lol :hyper:)

Yup, has happened to me several times since COVID. Don't be surprised if the next notification is the package is delivered. I've also had Amazon give me notifications that the driver is 8 stops/30 minutes away, so UPS can do better; a lot of things can be better these days. Let yourself get frustrated, eventually also ask 'could COVID-19 have an effect?' when you take a view from 30,000 ft up, & then decide what you want to do about it. No one wants to hear expectations may have to be tempered, but be prepared for disappointments for quite some time.

You're right. UPS can do better. Many times there's a tracking link that lets me follow the driver via GPS on delivery day. It'd be nice if they had that on all their vehicles.

In the end, if it's here on time, I'm fine with it. Still better than FedEx constantly changing the projected delivery day. :rollno:

Not only did UPS keep everything a secret except for the "out for delivery" notice, but they snuck up to my porch and left the package by the door without detection.
Yeah, they've been doing the stealth drop-off ever since the lockdowns started. When life opened back up, their delivery habits were already engrained... lol. That's why I ship everything to my office. My regular guy knows where it goes.

When I worked for ups they strived for a 90% scan rate on packages. It's supposed to get scanned at arrival and departure of every facility but someone somewhere has to be unlucky enough to fall into that 10% every step of the way

The same thing is happening to me right now. FedEx scanned the origin and departure two days ago, nothing since then.

I suppose that's better than watching the updates and seeing weird stuff. I bought an amp a few weeks ago. The website showed updates all along the way, including a scan in my town. I expected the next thing I'd see is out for delivery, but instead it was scanned 300 miles away from me. It took a couple days more than it should have.

For what it's worth, I recently had a package that changed the delivery date every day, up to a whole week in it's expected arrival. It showed it hadn't left, then it was sitting in a facility across the country, then it didn't exist, and finally it arrived on the one day it had never predicted delivery.

I wouldn't take that as a sign your package is missing or something shady is going on.

Different country but same experience here is common too.

My latest: Ordered a bass on the 15th. Got a "on its way" email with tracking number on the 19th (Easter break). Tracking does not update until Friday 22nd, just to say "we've got it and it'll be delivered to you on Monday".
On Saturday morning: knock knock... here's your new bass.

I find tracking a bit inconsistent with most carriers these days.

I ordered a bass from Thomann the other day and it's the same. Shows that it is on the way and I have an expected delivery date. Nothing since, but I'm just happy they are saying they can get me a bass from Germany in 3 days.

USPS has historically been pretty bad about this, but these days they're doing better than UPS in my experience. Not sure if they got better, UPS got worse, or both...
They just lost a pedal I ordered from Chicago Music Exchange. It got put on the wrong truck and ended up in Miami. No updates for over 2 weeks. *poof* Vanished. Thankfully CME was quick to refund my money. I hope they bought the insurance on that one.
