UPS got me sweating a bit

I ordered a ridiculously cool bass last Monday. It's coming from Washington state, all the way across to the East Coast. On Tuesday, the UPS tracking said "Departed from Facility" and hasn't updated since.

I contacted the seller and he told me that UPS has recently been bad about updating tracking as it progresses to its destination. I've never experienced this. Anyone else?

(Yes, yes, I know. I'm being impatient and probably a little bit paranoid. That's part of the experience... lol :hyper:)

I ordered a used bass from a Guitar Center in another state earlier this year. It took me three weeks to get it instead of the week that they estimated. Then they lost it in the tracking. They told me I couldn't make a claim on it because it was being shipped to my local GC. They had to open the claim and, suddenly, it showed up in the tracking and arrived after another week. UPS simply didn't scan the item when it came to them. First time I ever had a problem with them.

I just noticed this under the shipping progress part of my current UPS delivery. Unsure why some of the information is now gated.

Interesting. I have a package coming UPS from Thomann (not a NBD, sadly) and status was just "Label created" and then "On the way" but there was that same notice at the bottom. Remembering I actually am signed up with their "My Choice" thing I signed in - and... exact same status.

UPS was my way to go (as both USPS and DHL lost and damaged packages) untill a few months ago.

Lost a package, aknowledge it was lost after the claim, and still haven't paid a dime.

They also wrote off 800 bucks for a canceled label (thanks to Paypal I got it back, but UPS left me hanging).

I now just buy locally, or within Europe.

A shame but these experiences, with the higher prices just don't make it interesting nor fun for me anymore.

Don't sweat it. It'll update eventually. One time mine didn't update for a week then switched to "lost in transit" a few days later that changed to "out for delivery".

totally normal for it to not update until it's in your neighborhood as well.

Honestly, this is why I try not to check tracking anymore. It just stresses me out.

Don't worry. Third worst case is the instrument never arrives and you get reimbursed. Second worst case, the instrument arrives in pieces and you get reimbursed. The worst case, the instrument arrives in perfect shape and you drop it taking it out of the case, smashing it into pieces. You don't get a refund for that. ;)

As long as the bass arrives unmolested and it's not made of glass or ceramic, then it should be fine.

Alls well that ends well… but I still would have preferred better updates along the way.

I don't know what it is about UPS Canada, but whenever I await a parcel from Europe, or even the USA, everything grinds to a halt for some reason once it hits here, even though I've already paid taxes and brokerage. This time, they lost the commercial invoice during shipping. It took me hours on the phone to find that out, then another couple to get false assurances it would still make it today, then still more just to be told that's not true anymore. Gaslighting all the way. Not really a problem in real world terms, but super frustrating nonetheless. This is the second one in a row I may get my brokerage fees refunded for. I'd rather have the bass!
