I used to ship things "for a living" in that my business lived and died on it. They ALL SUCK. They all DESTROY THINGS with frightening regularity.

Now, the reality of who to choose lies in who actually honors their insurance claims, and who tries to steal from you.

UPS used to do their claims in-house, then they started using "Crawford" who are a bunch of f*cking theives. Given my experince with them, I'd say FEDEX is just a hair better.

Honestly? If it's a high ticket item, I'd pay the extra money for THE UPS STORE or FEDEX KINKOS to pack it. WHY???

YES, it's horribly overpriced, but then they can't try to weasle out of a claim (as they often do) by saying you didn't pack it correclty...because THEY packed it.

The other alternative is to use a third party insurer. I like that option best, because it flatly takes money away from the pockets of these f*cking THEIVES known as UPS and FEDEX.

Yes, my ass still burns from the hosing I got from ALL of these assclowns. THEY ALL SUCK!!!

Do you detect a little anger on my part?

I go for UPS. I know what time the driver will be at my house do deliver my packages. Fed Ex is not too bad, but I have no clue at what time the driver will show up.

Also my UPS driver will go out of his way to make sure my package is well hidden if I'm not home and its a small item. Fed Ex guy leaves it on the doorstep for everyone to see.

Here's another reason I really don't like fedex. My bass was shipped last monday. When I track it, it says it was shipped "FEDEX 2 Day Service". The bass is due for arrival Tuesday.

Can someone please explain that? Uhh.. even if they're talking "business" days, my calculater says thats 6 days. Not 2. Uhhh... my calculator says that's 2 TIMES 3. Why do they call it 2 day service? Is it 2 days for them to get it on the truck?

SO I'M FREAKING SITTING RIGHT HERE - WAITING FOR MY PACKAGE WHICH THEY CHANGED THE DELIVERY DATE ON - TO TODAY - AND RIGHT AT THE VERY MOMENT THAT I CALL FED EX TO SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE ME AN APPROXIMATE TIME - THE TRACKING PAGE CHANGES TO

DELIVERY EXCEPTION - CUSTOMER UNAVAILABLE

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVEN'T SET FOOT OUT OF MY APARTMENT! MY BELL WORKS!!!! THEY HAD MY PROPER ADDRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M PISSED!

THIS IS WHY I HATE FED EX. DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH UPS.

HAd that happen to me on some motorcycle parts. I immedialtley called fed=ex and told them that I was home and had been all day. They told me that they had to go withwhat the driver said and that he was not able to come back out to my location that day. I had to work 6 days straight after that and would not be home. Told them this, and their reply was that the driver would try 2 more times to deliver and if no one was there to take receipt, it would be returned to the sender. I ended up having to get a refund for the parts and order them from someone that uses UPS. Got the package on the day it was promised and that was only 3 days after I ordered them.

UPS ALL THE WAY.

I feel I want to add to that also that I wonder what everybody's take on this is from the recieving end? For those who like fedex I wonder if it's their choice because of price, or simply on the sending end of things? On the recieving end they suck at what they do. This crap has NEVER happened to me with UPS, and if I happened to miss the driver he would happily come back.

I put in my request for that with this delivery. I'm waiting for them to call me back. 15 minutes so far. They said call back in about a half an hour if I don't hear from them. I'm really freaking upset cuz it was here. I have an audition on wednesday and I'd love to use this bass. Also have a lot of other bass work I have to do today and would like to get comfortable with it. I feel like a big baby at the moment :crying: . Gotta vent to pass the time and get through this without going postal on the next fed ex driver i see. :bassist: That's not a bass. It's a machine gun. ARRRGHHHH!!!

With my luck a fedex guy in Bklyn is gonna get killed today and I'm going to wind up doing life for a dumbass post. Just venting. I don't even kill bugs.

I've never had any bad receiving experiences with FedEx Ground. So that plus price equals me using FedEx Ground whenever possible.

There are plenty of people who have had bad shipping with any given company and, as a result, will no longer use that company and/or hate them. I'll go with my own experiences which have been about equal service from both and cheaper rates+faster delivery with FedEx. That stuff you're describing has never happened to me with any of the three major shippers nor the USPS.

UPDATE: Beacuase I know you're all watching this thread and can't wait to hear how it all works out for Joe Nerve.

First, I must fess up and state that I made a mistake. I was told the bass was sent out on Monday, but truth was is was sent out on Friday. 2 day delivery is on schedule.

2nd - I had to call back 4 times (they kept telling me they'd call me back, call them if I heard nothing in about a half an hour). First they said they'd try to arrange for me to meet the guy, then (2nd call) they said they don't have customers meet up with the trucks anymore for safety issues, 3rd call they said they'd see what they could do, 4th call they said the guy will redeliver it today but couldn't give it a time.

I'M ON HOUSE ARREST!

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

They're coming, right?????

FedEx Ground beats UPS Ground hands down for me in both shipping costs and delivery times.

From the receiver's perspective, I have everything shipped to my place of work, and I've had about equal luck with both services. I've had "delivery exception" type problems with both, but both usually deliver as promised.

On the whole, as long as the item is well packed, I've had pretty good luck with both; it's obvious that the packages take a pretty good beating in transit, so it's definitely up to the packer to do a good job protecting the merchandise.
