Double Bass Upton Bass Club

Hey! My Upton Hybrid Semi-Deluxe is done as of a few weeks ago. It's being put to good use at the Crane School of Music. Freshmen and Sophomore year were on a German plywood from the 60's. The Upton has zero flaws. Playability is the best part for me, but this bass sounds incredible and looks awesome. The bass studio and my teacher agree that my bass has a TON of sound.

Eric discussed possibly renaming this model the Upton Classic. I had to have these old school upton F holes and this body shape. The Upton guys hit the nail on the head.

English Sycamore Neck, Karr Neck, Full Circle Pup

Let the wait begin for me! Just ordered a brescian bass. I have rented a double a few times and played on some friends, but it will be my first DB that I own! Could not be more excited...unfortunatly I have several months to wait. Now to begin the bow shopping process! :D

Now to begin the bow shopping process! :D

My rental bass came with a Glasser bow:spit:

I bought a brazilwood Upton shop bow from them back in the spring before I even found my bass. Much better. Bows are a very personal thing as best I can figure. Perhaps one day I'll go into one of the larger shops and get a bow that fits my hand better. The Upton bow is a good bow....but eventually I but would like a bow that fits my hand a little better.

I want to order one really bad, but I can't afford to right now. What is yours going to be made of? Hybrid or fully carved, color etc.. I'm in love with my laminated standard so I'm guessing the brecian will be a very special bass..

I ordered a hybrid. My plan in my head is to use this for both arco and pizz until/if I get to the place where I want a bass for just straight orchastral/string work, then retire the brescian as a straight jazz bass. This is my first instrument I have ordered from a shop new and couldn't be more happy with the experience so far. Josh from the Boston shop has been very helpful and responsive.

They do seem like they have a lot of great basses there but the video of the brescian really hit the sound I have in my head for the upright I want. I can't wait though! I am a complete newbie though but can't wait to start my upright journey!

Congrats on your order! I was looking into the Brescian hybrid as an orchestral bass, but chickened out until I get more comfortable with my chops and future direction. Eric quoted me about $7k for one with a Sycamore neck, hatpeg tuners and Evah Pirazzi strings.

When I ordered my bass two years ago I was thinking I wanted to play mostly jazz with it, and that I needed something durable as I was new to the double bass. Now I really want a hybred brecian. Keep us posted on the progress of yours. Upton usually will send pictures as the build progresses..

Yeah I kinda felt the same way, but it looks like a bass that I can get comfortable with and then decide if it would be better suited as jass or orchestral in a year or two. I also ordered it because there are zero basses for sale in Colorado. I have looked for like 5 months at shops, craigslist, and TB but there is nothing but a few cheap student basses for sale. So it was either keep looking or just buy one new.

I feel blessed to be at a place in life where I can buy a new one. I'll keep this thread updated with pics when they come!
