US income inequality at record high

We exploit the Chinese instead of employing ourselves, although employers exploit all their workers so.......
We're absolutely exploiting the Chinese workers. I assume you're familiar with the prices we pay them compared to other humans and the working conditions that they suffer through compared to other humans.

That's exploitation.

Hard to say, BwanaRik may use the difference on purely American made products. I doubt even a Rickenbacker is 100% USA content. Squires help keep American music stores open.

Thanks for pointing out something that's been missed. Even imported good do provides jobs for Americans. Not only the store where they are sold but the transport, the people loading and unloading the product. I've heard say that even with imported good most of the job value is still in the US.

Teaching should be a decent paying career, its massively valuable to any society!

It's a good paying career in countries that tend to score higher than us on testing.;)

I think you'll find that disability fraud, just in terms of the SS involves tens of thousands of people and over a billion dollars.

Thanks for the chance to clear this up.

From your link -

"The numbers represent less than 1 percent of beneficiaries and less than 1 percent of disability payments made during the time frame. "

I was surprised that Scotland is under 1 on that table, I'm surprised essentially everyone is under 1 to be honest. Though new grad teachers get a fairly good pay packet here. I dare say that while its a higher starting point than many, it won't increase as rapidly over the years.

You mean countries that don't reward horrible, even abusive, teachers with tenure? I am shocked.

I'm all for job security, especially seeing as its something which seems to be on the decline. Though I do agree, from what I've seen & read on it, it seems that many states are unable to get rid of crap teachers because of poor job performance.

I'd like to thank the mods for leaving this thread open as long as it has been. It's hard to discuss matters social in nature (what started off as pay inequality) and keep the line that leads directly to politics blurred, and the majority of the posts here have managed to do just that.

I'd also like to thank fellow TBers who have contributed to a mostly constructive discussion, even those who have veered off topic (self included) and posts that bring up sexual identitity that result in the poster looking like an intolerant person. Edited for kindness.;)

Make it a great weekend!
