USA Geddy Pickguard Travails

Yeah, it's frustrating.
I have a 72 J, which is pretty much the same as a Geddy Lee. When I got it 34 years ago, it had some aftermarket black pickguard that didn't fit too well at the plate joint. Had a gap. Even when I installed the J Retro, it had the same gap.
I got a $10 abalone looking pickguard off of ebay and it had the same mismatch as the OP's at the plate edges. That wasn't my issue, though, but the appearance got old.
I then got another $10 green guard off of ebay, but it specified that it was for the Geddy Lee, according to the picture of it's specs and supported by the spec sheet sent with it. It was spot on.

The gaps on the abalone look almost exactly like the gaps on mine.

I went through a similar thing with my USA Geddy. It took several tries to get a pickguard that fit correctly.

I played it to death until I noticed a static-y sound if I touched the area right where the most scratches were under the G string. Not a problem for fingerstyle, a big problem for slapping. Like, I wouldn't even be playing, just touching the guard there.

So I took it off. And now the bass is just the black body and... it's fine! I like it just how it is. (And I didn't want to go through the find a pickguard that fit business again)

Unfortunate as that is, I feel there could be way more QC issues other than that, personally I feel I would not be bothered nearly as much about that as say if it came with cracks or dead electronics or something.
