USB soundcard to use for effects unit recomendations?

I'm building an effects unit with my raspberry pi, and I've got schematics drawn for all the fiddly bits. The only thing I need is a good USB soundcard for input/output.

Anything that is good quality, low latency and not too pricey would be excellent I can probably get it to work on Linux with enough tinkering, but please help give me ideas on what would/wouldn't work

You might consider one of the smaller Saffire units from Focusrite. They work pretty well, and aren't terribly spendy. I've had an LS56 (their big brother) for a couple years now, and been very happy with it.

From your description, sounds like you only need 1-2 channels in & out. There are some small USB audio interfaces aimed at the DJ crowd that might also work. Numark makes a couple, for example, as does Native Instruments. Those will have RCAs instead of 1/4" jacks, though. But you can always get RCA<->1/4" cables to address that.

I found a Focusrite 2i4, and that looks perfect I guess I could use it to record as well

AKAI EIE I/O is a nice unit. Not sure if it's Linux compatible though.
