Use Any Gimmicks at your gigs?

We do. It's a lot of fun and usually entertains the crowd. Gets us invited back a lot. This is a pic of what we do when we play ZZTop's Sharp Dressed Man.

In my old band we started this thing where we were actually making fun of another bands guitarist. During the breakdown of one of our songs we would all flex our left biceps. It started one night when this guitarist who is semi buff kept flexing his muscles on stage while playing (and greased up with baby oil) and he began making fun of us, so we decided to make fun of him. Little did we know that every time we played a show after that each time we played that song the crowd would begin flexing with us. Was actually kind of funny.

Towards the end of the band I thought it would be a good idea to get on my singers shoulders and let him hoist me into the air while continuing to play. That was an interesting drunken ordeal as well.

Haven't done any myself but..

Guitarist drinking from a Vodka bottle filled with water (Jack filled with tea, Jager filled with Cola, etc.)

gives a rockstar appearance but keeps you sober enough to play the correct notes in the correct order, rather than one or the other

Buy some cheap percussion toys,....cowbell, maraca's, tambourines, etc,....drag the prettiest girls in the club up on stage to play them. The girls love it, they get to show off how hot they are,..the crowd loves it, they get to watch the hot girls,...the band loves it because the girls usually tend to rub themselves against the bandmembers,... it's a win situation all the way around. We NEVER take the stage without the percussion toys now.

I have this rubber chicken that I put on the mic stand with the mic clip in his mouth so the only part of the mic showing is the ball, which looks like the chicken's holding it in its mouth. I had to cut a hole right where its anus would be to slide it over the boom and run the cable to the mic.

Now, I've been doing this for over 30 years (not at every gig), and back in the 70's a little 3-year-old boy (friend of the family) came to one of our rehearsals. He seemed a little reserved at the time. So some 25 years later, I was talking to him about when he used to come to rehearsal, and he told me that chicken really freaked him out, and it still bothers him. That made my life.

We used to do that in the R&B\Funk\Soul\Dance band I was in. It is INDEED a perfect excuse to get women up on stage and involved in the show!

The caveat is most of them are arrhythmic so you have to learn to tune them out and make sure they don't get anywhere near a live mic! :)
