Used Ampeg V4BH at GC Website

I found this V4BH on the GC website two weeks ago. It looked almost mint (one tolex issue top left) and the price wasn't bad, so I ordered it. It arrived in an oversized box having been packed on it's right side (handle down) with a few balls of butcher paper thrown in the box for padding. It had either been dropped or smashed so hard that a corner of the (shipping) box was torn through from the top to over half way down, and the head was cracked in three places (two shown, I didn't grab a photo of the crack on the other handled side, but it looks the same) and the support block for the rear panel was torn completely free of the cabinet.
I considered asking for a partial refund and finding a new head cabinet, but the electronics were screwed too. At volume, it sounds like bad speaker rattle, but the cabinet I played it through is perfect and sounds perfect with my other heads...
So I took it last night to my local GC in Orem Utah, and it's already posted in their used section for the same price as before, listed in "excellent condition." Just in case anyone here sees it and is tempted; buyer beware!

Condolences.

Shipping tends to be stupid cheap with GC used, but they are pretty inconsistent on how well they pack stuff. I ordered a Marshall 1960BX an it was encased in a huge box with lot's of bubble wrap, palleted, and then shipped as freight. I had an 18 wheeler back up to my driveway to unload, and of course the cab arrived in perfect condition.

In contrast, I had a similar experience to yours with my 87 Skunk SVT. GC packed it in an oversize box with bubble wrap. It's about a 90lb head, and pretty much every bubble was popped during shipping. The amp arrived sitting on it's face and the mid control was snapped off.

I took it to my local GC and they tried to strong arm me into a return. I argued with them and they relented and replaced the broken pot. I had to advise them on where to buy the part :rollno:. I guess I got lucky as the only other damage was pretty inconspicuous.

A week after I got the amp back, it blew a fuse. Turns out one of the main filter caps shorted. I did not bother with GC as I knew they would insist I return the. O shotgunned all of the filter caps and it has been fine since.
