Double Bass Used Bow Pricing

bows can generally go for anything from $40 to $20,000+ (both new and used) to give you a general ball park figure. carbon fiber bows seem to top out (apparently) around 5k (see here). the finale bow is a good CF for sure. this used finale is going for $275, maybe less. i suggest you keep an eye out on the classifieds here if you don't want to spend $350 for a new bow and don't mind waiting for a bit.

also, you should try out a bow before you buy it. the only exceptions are certain CF bows, which tend to be absurdly consistent. i would recommend the finale to anyone even if they can't try it. metropolitan is a good bow, but my experience is that the finale is as good and less expensive (at least with the models that i have tried, i know they make better/more expensive bows).

Thanks for your response.

So typically they have, especially reputable names like finale, a pretty high percent resale value? That's good to know.

is there any reason you guys would prefer buying new rather than used? i know with basses and like speaker cabinets its tough buying used because you really have to really check it out in depth and make sure it's in good shape. But with a bow, especially a carbon fiber one?

Right now im playing on a 50$ (not sure if it's CF or just fiberglass or something?) bow that came with the bass, and anything would probably be better than it. But i don't mind my current bow, my teacher said it wasn't a bad bow at all and its comfortable in my hands, and im able to get a good sound out of my bass from it.

+ 1 on trying other bows, but make sure you compare them on YOUR bass. For me, the CF bows (I have the Metro) have great balance, but good wood bows have a sympathetic thing going with the wood of your bass and create subtle tonal variance that you can't get with CF.
