Used Items in Guitar Center

I was trying to give Guitar Center some love (and my money) till I found that they are owned by Bain Capital (yeah, that Bain Capital). Of course, Bain has just about cornered the musical instrument trade: Guitar Center's sister companies/subsidiaries incorporate Music & Arts, Musician's Friend, GuitarCenter.com, LMI, Giardinelli, Musician.com, Private Reserve Guitars, Woodwind and Brasswind and Harmony Central.

I buy from local independent's or Amazon whenever possible.

If this is true I'm only buying custom made instruments from now on. Or maybe I'll just become a luthier myself.

It is true and easy to verify. But there are also several smaller web retailers that sell the same instrument brands carried by the Bain companies.

TolerancEJ - Note, you can get different results at GC when searching L2000 and L-2000. When you do L2000 you don't get the one you stated in Columbus - but you do get another for $899 in Sherman Oaks, CA (rosewood board).

I've done that too. Some sites autocorrect the most common typos, but it is another way to sometimes get a deal!

FWIW Pushic has received some bashing on here for some low quality stuff. This bass is really nice and a better example of what he is capable of. A little on the heavy side due to all the purple heart but with the asymmetrical neck and barts pups this bass is great to play and has great tone. The flats (GHS from Jason @ bassstringsonline.com) on it where pretty new when I sold it to them so there is a lot of life still on them.

I think I just picked up the Pushic fretless 6 in question at GC. I'm going to take it for a spin anyways. I'm kind of ambivalent on it at this point. The neck is, um, plank-ish, but wow does the bass sound great (is this the same neck as ChrisC is talking about?) I was playing it through a MB Jeff Berlin combo.

I'm wondering: Is it just the barts + fretless that sound so great, or do the body and fingerboard woods have a significant impact as well? That is, if I came across a different builder's fretless 6 with Barts, would the sound be fairly similar?

How can you use a coupon with used gear? I tried before a lot of times and nothing. And if i call them, they tell me i cant use coupon with used gear. Share how do you do it please!!

It depends. I was trying to recreate what happened this morning and I stumbled across the combo of their current 15% off code with a new item and a used item giving the discount. I had a new MB Fusion $700 and a $15k used bass and it was giving the max $500 discount in the cart. Your results may vary. Even though my card has been charged for overnight delivery of all 4 guitars they are still for sale and I got no tracking so I'm about 100% positive I didn't have the score of the century. Funny though.
