wow, I am planning to get an android phone, and irealbook have an android version! Can we change this topic to TouchScreen phones apps instead of just IPhone/IPod?

I have a 5 strings bass and, I want to know if the Peterson iStroboSoft works well with basses and the low B. does anybody knows about it?
I just got this in the mail the other day. Haven't had a chance to play with it as I need a 1/4->1/8" adapter.

Try "Bassist" from MooCowMusic. I've used it a couple of times to work something out, which I consider it having paid for itself. Must admit, haven't used it much lately, though this thread inspires me to revisit it.
A tuner app called "Cleartune" is replacing my trusty Korg C30.
Cleartune picks up my low B string in a noisy rehearsal room with no problem.

I'm digging my istrobe these days, very stable and accurate. Unlike most tuners, it works well with a bow.
+1 on the iStrobe. It was a little pricey as aps go, but I find I use it all the time. Plus, something about the mic on the iPhone lets me use it in a group and it only picks up the nearest instrument -- mine. Really don't need to use a line in unless you're playing with some crazy loud folks. Of course, being a bass player I only tune once a week.

I played the Messiah last week. Someone asked if I was tuned and I said, "Isn't it the same as last year?"
check out FretBoard v1.5 great app for fretboard , hasnotes,scales (a lot of scales!) and chords. The free LE one is ok but you will want to upgrade
I've got the Fretboard LE, but it doesn't play any sound. I wanted it to play the notes as I touch the fretboard.
Guitar Toolkit does this.

I've got the Peterson strobe tuner on my Iphone and really use it a lot.
I also have the Real Book app (that's really been handy) and the gig baby four track that has some cool recorded drum patterns.
My favorite app is Multitrack. It's a straight up 16 track recorder that works really well. You can only record one track at a time and there are no bells,lights or whistles (effects,metronome,etc.) but I made a good demo of myself by stacking the tracks and taking the headphone out,running that into a mixer and the mixer into a stand alone CD recorder deck. It's pricey for an app but it's worth
I also have the Xewton music studio app.That's a sequencer with a keyboard and sampled instruments.it's one of the more expensive(19.95)apps but it does a lot. I really wish you could do vocal tracks on it though.
I think we are just seeing the beginning of recording/music making on these devices.People are already coming up with mixers and higher quality mics to use with these phones. I don't even own a computer. All I have is a Iphone 3G.

Just bought "Bassist". Works great. Easier to just play around with than Guitar Toolkit. Will sustain the notes as long as you hold them. Sounds good.

I know Cleartune does. 4 bucks. Most accurate tuner I've seen and I've had tuners that cost $600 +.
Because of the directional mike on the iPhone, it'll pick up the low B in the middle of an orchestra warming up.
It also has over a dozen temperaments built into it. (Not that I use them.)
I'll take exception to an earlier comment that inferred that most tuners don't work well with arco. My experience has been just the opposite.
Glad you like it, sound wasn't as good as I'd hoped though decent enough. I've enjoyed revisiting this app.
There's a great selection of virtual instruments for handhelds. Would be fun to put a whole band together (), everybody playing iPods or iPhones etc.
BTW, no affiliation with MooCow other than a good impression of a cow lowing.

What would be great is if you can rig the 3rd gen iPod Touch as if it had a separate mic and separate speaker jack. That way, you could have the speaker going out to a PA, and have the mic going to your voice or bass or other instrument.
Any chance this can this be done?

I've always been amazed by iRealBook on my iPhone, but then realized the new version included the Player feature.
Then noticed the JazzStyles add-on, and quickly purchased & downloaded that.
Then the light bulb went on.
I sold the netbook I was using for Band-in-a-Box at my practice stand, and just bought an iPad with gobs of beautiful screen real estate.
Within minutes, I had my entire practice tool set up. No more booting. No more mousing. No more BIAB (more versatile for sure, but for quick practicing of standards, I think iPad+iRealBook+Player will be the ticket).
As soon as iGigBook comes out, up to 30 fake books (plus all the above) condense to a 1.5lb package, and indexed on top of it.
With my Azola, my Shuttle 3.0-10T, and my iPad I should almost be able to bicycle to a gig.

Plus rocking a funk line on upright with the sound of an 808 beat in the background makes practicing just plain fun.

Question about iReal B (the new name for iRealBook) and iGigBook. It seems to me that iRB stores and processes a bunch of separate chord charts, whereas iGB loads and indexes separate PDF books that the user supplies. Is this about right? If so, where do the PDF books come from?
I just got an iPad and am figuring out how to best use it. Easiest (and cheapest!) is to just make PDF chord charts and then display them with the PDF reader, or else just load the individual PDFs that I already have.
