Using a Y cable to create dedicated tuner output.

This is going to sound stupidly complicated, and pointless. Please bear with me.

I currently use an unpowered EHX Big Muff to take advantage of the two outputs to split a signal in two directions (basically to make a dedicated tuner output). It's positioned behind a Boss LS2.

The LS2 sends one loop into the BBM, splits, then one immediately comes back into the LS2 loop. The other goes onto do stuff. I understand this works because the LS2's buffer gives enough signal strength to make the magic happen.

Can I replace this by simply using a Y cable to split the signal immediately upon leaving the LS2 loop output?

IE, have one leg of the Y just loop back into the LS2 and the other leg go onto do stuff? Or is there something happening inside the unpowered BBM that I don't know about that makes it currently work? Does length of the cable legs make a difference?

Guessing it would be just the same exactly as what you have now, using the unpowered Muff as a "Y."

That's what I'd think, but I'm not smart enough to know if there's something fancy inside the BBM that, even passively, is somehow correctly grounding out or something.

I used to do similar things...thought I always had to have at least one pedal with dual outputs so I could feed my tuner an always on signal. Got tired of that nonsense and upgraded to a TC Polytune 3, which can be set for always on, and it even still keeps the mute switch function. Make sure it's a Polytune 3, as the 3 is the only Polytune that has this feature.

Fairly certain nothing like that could be happening. Make you a rigged up "Y" and try it out at low volume?

While this is a valid answer, trying to get rid of stuff not add more, plus there's actually a working tuner in this mess that could do more if I wanted.

With the death of Radioshack, even something as simple as 1/4" jacks need to be mail ordered. If I'm going to do it and wait, I was wondering if I could figure out if it was at least a valid option. I'd hate to wait a week and then find out it was all for not. Naught? Whatever. All for one of those.

Yeah the idea is that it would replace your existing tuner, eliminating the need for a dual output pedal or a Y cable...plus it would power other pedals if you need that. So you would definitely be getting rid of stuff with it.

Actually, there's already a multieffect w/tuner which also does time-based effects to trigger an envelope filter's external input, I just figured I'd make it sound easier by saying "tuner output." Part of me never really bothers with that option, but it's cute to know it's there if I feel like being fancy.
