Ok so kinda off topic but not really sure where else to turn! Google searches aren't a massive help on this one.

We have a lot of backing tracks when we play live (symphonic stuff) and a click track for the drummer. Our current setup is an old laptop running cubase playing two tracks (one for FOH and monitors, and another with a click track for the drummer) into an external interface, which splits the signal into the drummer's IEM with the click and the other clean track in stereo for the rest.
I'm not happy with the old laptop setup, it's prone to crashing and I'd much rather use an iPad as it's more compact. I have an Alesis IO Dock, which has three outputs - Out left, out right and headphone out. I've been playing around with Garageband and was wondering if anyone knows a way of sending one track to the headphone out and the other to the left and right outs - I've tried the panning one channel left and another right and doing it like that, but the symphonic playbacks really lose a lot in being mono... sounds very flat.
Has anyone got any bright ideas? What do you guys/gals do?
