Using Compression and an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500

The Drive is very sensitive to changes in playing dynamics. The compressor out front is reducing the dynamics to a point that the OD effect doesn't quite kick in. Try boosting the amp gain a bit more, as well as low mids and see if that helps.

Yeah, this. try increasing the gain to ad a bit more grit
