I played guitar first before bass, so when I join my first band as a bass player I used my little Marshall 112 combo guitar amp as my bass cab/amp for about a month until I was able to save the money to buy a Fender Rumble 210 combo bass amp. It worked alright, but I have to admit I was a little worried when I had to keep turning the volume up on it and in fear it was going to blow.

My main amp in the early days of my bass playing was my Marshall SLP 100 and a 4x12 cabinet loaded with vintage Celestion 75's. (It was my guitar rig live too.) Yes, it would take up to 300 watts! Super loud. Can't play that loud anymore live in most places. So, I still use the plexi, but only have a 1x12 cabinet right now. I prefer the guitar heads to most bass heads. My faves are Hiwatt, Marshall, Matamp. Any of those are good enough for me.

Just purchased an Orange PPC212C Celestion Vintage 30 loaded closed back... guitar cab, for my 78 P bass. There's just something about those speakers I really like. Using a 30w THD bivalve guitar amp, KT88s class A. And the Joe Meek single channel comp/eq I run, bumps at 40Hz if need be. This rig works for me! I've played bass a long time and I have never owned a bass amp! Sold the only bass cab I've ever owned, Bag End single 12 ported. I prefer closed back cabs for bass. I tried every high end ported bass cab (including Orange bass cabs) out there before committing to the Orange closed back. No myth! I'm not alone in saying, we often play what we can find, borrow, or afford. Good times!!!

I've used my '69 Acoustic 150 with it's 6x10 closed back guitar cab for bass. As long as you watch the amount of lows, it's works well for small to medium size gigs and gets a great punchy tone. I think I'll add a ported 2x15 to it next time.

For guitar, it's a monster.
