Using MARKBASS combo w/ additional cabinet

Brand new hear. Playing bass for a while in a local bar-band.
Beginner question.
I have a Markbass Jeff Berlin 1x15 combo. It has an output for an add-on cabinet and i am thinking about using a markbass TRV 102P (2x10 400watts @ 8 ohms).

i really like the sound of the 15" speaker, but what i am going for is a little more volume, a little more clarity - and think the 2x10 will add that - (smaller speakers=tighter sound?)

anybody ever try this combo
anybody have any thoughts on this combo
am i wasting $ and weight and should just turn the 1x15 up a bit more.....

any thoughts would be appreciated. I love the weight and portability of the 151P combo.

If you do go for a 2x10 get the Standard 102HF - I don't care much for the rear ported cabs. Go to a guitar center and listen to one of them maybe compare it to a Club 151, which would be my choice for a MB 15. FWIT I think the 2x10 won't buy you anything you can't get from the 1x15 except for a larger and heavier cab.

The person I bought my 410HR from said he bought this to complement his Jeff Berlin 15. He said when he gigged with it it changed the sound significantly and decided to go with another 15 instead. Something to watch I suppose and also goes with the "don't mix two types of cab if possible" thought.

The JeffB does not have a tweeter so you may want to wind down the tweeter control on a new cab when you compare or it would sound very brittle in comparison.

Personally, I would get two 210's or a 4 ohm 410 instead of the 15... I need a tweeter for one of my bands and having the control lets you use with or without or somewhere in between.

I think the best extension for the Berlin would be the Traveler 151P, or you could get the Standard 151HR if you don't mind carrying more weight. I have heard that the Standard carries the most bottom. Also that the Club series carries the least due to construction. The 151P is in the middle (I have one, using it with a LMIII head). The NY151 would be the most compact cab to add, but I don't know how it sounds (good, too, I'm sure, but different as well, in some way, I'd expect). At any cost, you will do best by adding another 15, and NOT mixing cabs, from what I hear. I mixed my 15 with a 112 combo, but it didn't work very well, for instance.

FWIW, the 151P cab weighs 44.75 lbs. and seems to put out plenty of lows, and is quite tight, in my experience from the last several months gigging with mine.

it sounds like the 1x15 is the way to go - or at least the way i am leaning.

seems like choices to go with my jeff berlin are (Markbass):

Club 151

Traveler 151

NY 151

i am ruling out std 151 for weight and SIZE (ok, im odd but i dont like how a 23" wide cab stacks with the berlin 18" wide cab)

MOST IMPORTANT - will any of these NOT be compatable ohm / watt wise? that is where i have no knowledge and i figured you guys know what your talking about

i like that the club has a tweeter - should i?

FINAL THOUGHTS??? and Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again everybody - just arrived home with the Markbass NY 151
1. It sounds AWESOME
2. the 102 speakercab did not sound nearly as good to me
3. i like the way the jeff berlin sits on it with the same footprint - looks clean
4. my wife was ok with purchase price - imagine that
5. like that i can add some high with the tweeter that the JB is missing

Congrats, pal, that really sounds like a great rig. I'll be sounding similar when I get another 151P to go with the one I already have. I believe your rig will now cover anything you wanna do, indoors or out. If you need PA support you will still have enough onstage to hear yourself well and have a good feel, too. Markbass kicks butt, IMO.

I am still surprised by how much I like my MB small stack (112H combo and 112H cab) compared to my big Trace Elliot stack. Nearly the same sound at way much less weight and stage space. They do look cool stacked up - post a photo if you can, I need to get one of mine up as well sometime. The good thing with the tweeter is you can dial it in as needed. I use my extension cab on the bottom and keep that tweeter off - I get plenty of highs as needed from the combo. Since your combo has no tweeter you can dial in exactly what you want. Congrats on a cool rig!

I have a 121H combo as well, but I run out of speaker when too loud and low. I bet it sounds killer with the 121H cab added. Cool!

Hi I bought the Markbass 102 traveler cab to go with my 115 traveler and TTE500 and have to say the sound is all I had hoped for.
I tried the 15 on its own then the 2*10 on its own and as you would expect they are very different sounds. The 15 on its own has a warmth that the 10's lack but the 10's have the punch that the 15 misses. Put them together and there is a sound to die for. Combining the cabs produces a massive full range bass sound that is utterly brilliant. I can't remember ever loving my bass sound as much as i do since I started using the markbass Gear. I prefer a passive sound and this setup with my 78 Fender Precision gives me exactly what I have been looking for after all these years and many bass rigs.
