Using my amp as a home stereo?

Hello all, I have an ampeg micro svt that I enjoy playing it with my little blues band, but I was wondering if I could dual purpose it as a home stereo? I believe I would just use amp head as a source of power and purchase some home stereo speakers for proper freq. response. I am wondering if this will sound good? Will it cause my amp any unwanted damage? I won't be listening to anything at high volume so I won't be driving the amp head very hard. Thanks-

My Ampeg SVT-7 pro has a pair of RCA jacks on the back for "play-along." I often hook up my laptop to it, or my mp3 player. It thumps especially through a 410. haha

Check the impedance of the speakers, most home speakers I have seen are all 6 ohms. I got a 1000 watt surround sound system from costco for under $300.00. Might be the way to go...

Hooked my 'pod up to my twin MB210s as soon as I saw this thread. Not exactly what you are contemplating, OP, since I am using the amp cabs too. It sounds OK.

I have wondered about using the power amp from my rehearsal space rig on stereo speakers...

I run an old Peavey Century Bass 200 head into two serious stereo speakers from the '70's. They'll eat up all 100 watts it has to give. They don't go suuuper low but they get loud. It's a 12 crossed over into a 10. Right now, they're carrying the low end of the electric piano.
