uuuummmm....this guy is insane...

Video sounded alright starting off. Too bad a lot of these slap bass videos getting out there now turn into a guy having an epileptic fit on his bass towards the end. Sounded like complete noise in the last minute or so. Looked cool and fast though at least. I don't know, after watching videos of someone great like Marcus Miller or Les Claypool using slap bass techniques and someone like this guy, it's almost like night and day between the two groups. You watch Miller or Claypool and you are treated to a show that while technical, doesn't come off with an air of showing off or trying to flail as fast as humanly possible, music and melodic attempt be damned. They don't try to do too much all at once making it sound like a car accident or train wreck. I don't know really. Each time I see a video like this, it really turns me more and more off on slap bass in general. While I do quite enjoy the tone, I don't want to scare potential band mates away preemptively with this kind of stuff. To each their own I suppose :( Probably wont be liked much after that one. :)

Rock on!

While I agree with what your saying here...This guy is not performing on stage, or even playing a song...he is specifically showing off his technique... thats why he was counting notes per beat and showing the technique he uses to achieve that count, kind of like a singer showing their vocal range..you go extreme to show you can...Look at it from that context....I bet he has groove when needed on stage.

Listening to more extreme tempo electronica is what really turned me on to high speed playing. There, I noticed a kind of over-rhythm that washes over good pieces. You get the same sense in good high speed guitar soloing and you get it in high speed slapping.

If you don't have it... you got nothing. This didn't have it.

Not that I would argue with CatfishStudios above though.... who knows....
