V4B rockers?

I'm talking about the switches.

Are they hard to replace or even available?

I was experiencing some mysterious volume drops and it seems to be originating from the ultra lo switch over the bass pot. Already tried replacing the tubes - yeah it's louder and better with the new tubes, but still getting the volume drops that seem to be temporarily correctable by working the switch into the right position.

My amp guru was loath to spray cleaner into it. I think I might try some compressed air or something. Any thoughts from you experts out there in TV land?

Oh yeah... it's an early 70's Linden NJ version.

I don't see how electronic contact cleaner would hurt it in any way.

The compressed air is good for cleaning, but be careful where it's aimed. It's stout enough to potentially harm some areas on the inside of the head. Dexoit spray(can be found at Radio Shack) or even Radio Shack's tuner cleaner/lubricant spray will not harm anything. Try spraying from the outside first. If that doesn't take care of it, you'll have to slide the chassis out and spray from the back and top sides. If that doesn't take care of it, maybe replacement time. Find you a good Ampeg tech for that. Good luck.

My advisor is a guy who builds super high-end audio amps...he is definitely not a fan of spray contact cleaner!

i'm more a fan of contact cleaner than replacing rocker switches. i figure if i have to replace a switch anyway, can't do too much to ruin it with contact cleaner

i'd spray a small amount of Caig DeOxit gold in it and switch it back and forth a few times. they rarely wear out.

I agree, the spray is certainly worth a try.

I guess I'll check around to see if anyone stocks it here.

so here's another thing - we're over at his place horsing around with it (and he replaced every tube in it except for the Ax7s) and all of a sudden...the power switch quit working. If it's plugged in, it's on. I guess fliptops again for a replacement switch?

IMO, that's just a coincedence. the same exact thing happened on one of mine. it's a common switch. fliptops should have it, as well as ALOT of other vendors.

I had the same issue with mine. It actually had a three way on the power switch when I got it (obviously replaced already), the tech put a proper switch in while he was cleaning up other things, and about two years later I went to switch it on and nothing happened. Switch was just flapping around. Put in another new one and all was good.
