V4BH vs Vintage V4B is there a difference?

A couple of V4BH heads have popped up for sale recently around here. I’m wondering if they are any different that the vintage heads other than weight and size. Do they sound the same?

IMO, probably not much of a difference. An older amp will have capacitors that - if original - are going to fail. It is a matter of time. It is fixable, but an expense (or work) that many are not cognizant of. In terms of sound, I think they are pretty similar, but have only played V4BH in stores, not on stage. The basic amp circuit is just about the same.

Think of the V4BH as a 100W SVTCL. It’s a good amp. It’s closer to the current V4B reissue than the vintage V4B. A vintage V4B uses different tubes and transformers, puts out a little more power. They can be VERY expensive to bring up to spec.
