Vail Johnson

I read the posts Vail wrote in the amp section regarding light weight amps and i have to say ... the guy comes off as a douchebag , he can definitely play a bass & he can definitely say dumb sh*t .

" Women and the French don't get it " ????? Vail Johnson is an ignoramus in all sense of the word.

Maybe I should lighten up and not be an ignoramus : )

:D On a more serious note, it continues to amaze me that some would think being a good player and knowing about/being interested in the gear side of things are related in any way. Totally different skills.

What gets some 'pros' in trouble on this site on occasion is believing that if they know something about one thing, then the know something about all things:smug::D:hiding:

I get where you're coming from totally, I just don't see a need to break balls over an opinion about gear. I don't do that with no names, and there is no need to do it with famous bassists either.

I agree there totally! It can get pretty rough around here. You should try saying something that isn't totally positive on a Genz thread sometime:p

the bassist's prayer:

lord, let me build peer acceptance through my gear, and if others don't like my gear, let me browbeat them mercilessly until they do.

so here's what happens when you're nice to people...i just got back from seeing vail play with kenny g, and he took us backstage to meet kenny and the guys in the band! and i'll tell you what...it was amazing! kenny is a really great showman, and his sax playing is second to none. plus he seems like a very nice guy who just likes to play. the band was dead-on, and vail did a funk solo in the second half that flat out killed.

so all you haters can eat it! i'm g 4 life, bitches!

btw, for all the gearheads, vail had a pretty scaled back rig compared to what he usually uses...gk 2001rb, one 412 neo, and a little mackie mixer, and he used his yellow ex-factor the whole night.

How was the FOH sound? My experience was it was the best FOH sound I have ever heard (kudos to their soundman) and I've been to 100's of live concerts!

Sounds like a great time, JimmyM :)

That was frign hillarious

THAT is some funny sh!t right there:p

I needed that!:D

:D That's a classic! Excellent!

Thanks for taking that post in the spirit of jest in which it was intended. All the people mentioned have great posts and I've learned something from each.

Mr. Johnson doesn't need to disappear from TB. It seemed like most of the animosity came from just a few people because they took his opinion as an insult to their ability to judge sound. He handled himself with patience and class. I'd be happy to play as well as him and respect his ability, experience and opinion. Same for Kenny G. Can you not disagree without getting angry?

But let's face it. That vid clip of him playing with David Cassidy in the 90's doing a remake of a Partridge Family song on Magic Johnson's talk show was surreal. Fascinating but wrong on so many levels.
