Veillette-Citron Owners!

Just saw this post for VC 124 - clearly it has been modified with a Fender Jazz pickup.

:scowl:Hi Todd...

Thanks for this but I have managed to exchange cash for one of these fine ladies to come and live with me. She has to travel from the US to the UK to do so and I am eagerly awaiting her arrival.

I've (think I've) attached her picture so you too can gaze wonderously at her beautifully crafted body...:spit:

I've been in contact with Harvey Citron who's been really helpful..anybody else who needs to contact him can do so at the Citron guitars website...

When I recently purchased my VC bass (see my baby below) I contacted Harvey with a query about her. I wasn't really expecting a reply..you know, famous people not having time for the prols..but to my surprise he replied with info on my new baby the same day..bet if you contacted Ford, Henry Jnr wouldn't reply!!!

Confirmed: Harvey Citron IS a Nice guy

also attached is a photo of Victor Wooten at a recent bass seminar which we attended - another nice guy - ain't it great to meet your heroes...

:hyper:my new baby arrived today:hyper:...bastard Customs and Excise kept her for an additional two days and charged me £199.13 (nearly $300) for the privilege...I already own a Jaydee Supernatural and Warwick Dolphin (along with a Crafter Acoustic, Ashbury and 5 string Corvette)..but the VC is BY FAR the best bass i've ever played!!!

I contacted Harvey and told him so...

VC must be the best kept secret of all time - glad i'm in on it...:smug:

I sent the image to Harvey who confirmed she didn't leave the factory like this..is this abuse?..surely it is some sort of crime...suggestions for punishment!!!

I did something even more extreme to mine back in the day, but it just killed. I replaced the pickups with what were called Hi-A's at the time (now Bartolini), and had the controls rewired and the original Bartolini preamp installed. It killed... and really didn't do much to the look of the bass.

That bass really came alive with that Bart pre. It was pretty cool in that I had it rewired for a true 'volume/volume', and then used the little micro switch to tap into the additional ability of that preamp... resulting in a three way switch...flat, treble boost (at around 10K), and treble boost and a slight upper mid cut for slapping.

Killer, although I always felt a touch guilty messing with that beautiful bass. However, as bass tones and requirements changed in the 80's, it allowed me to play that instrument for another 5 years until I moved to 5 strings.

That J pickup really messed the look up though.

Here are 2 of the 4 VC basses I own and love - great sound, tons of options - ebony fretboards - love em! Also pictured are a 74 and 75 Alembic and my 1980 Koa BC Rich Eagle bass

Wow...I really like your collection! Cool stuff! I have a eagle bass from around 76 0r 77 I think. The pickup placement is closer to the finger board and it has one less switch.

I just got a 1979 Brooklyn made VC. I've removed the screws and wood to get access to the truss rod. How do I adjust it?? I'm looking at a brass hexagon that then has a hole inside of it. Can I turn the hexagon with a wrench or do I need a tool that gets in the hole?

Hi Dave,

Use an open-end wrench to adjust the rod.
It's a simple hex nut.

If you can find one that fits in there, a Gibson-style
"corncob pipe" wrench can work well also.

I don't remember the wrench size off the top of my head.
It's in the 1/4" to 5/16" range.

The V-C rods are one-way rods, so make sure the nut is at least snug - it's possible to loosen it too much and have it rattle (or fall off!).

Cheers!
Martin
