Veillette-Citron Owners!

Hi guys. Names Aldo and I have one down in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I found her in a remote town pretty abandoned and didn't know what I was buying at the moment through texts with a guy on a bad cel camera. The only thing I knew is that there was something special about her and that she was probably worth a bit. It was a good call after all, seeing how expensive they are. I might be killed if I said how much she cost me. I wrote to Citron and he responded saying it was a one off Custom job he didn't remember, but assured it was one of their baby's. Her serial number is 666, yes the devil owned her. The finish was in really bad condition, and I hate red guitars anyways so!I opted to remove the finish and let out all the beauty.

The neck feels sort of in between a J and a P to me, but I'm not much of a bass neck connoisseur. I find it very easy and comfortable to play.
I received my bass, and love everything about it.
(Well, not the factory glued-in thumbrest so much, but that’s a minor quibble).
The neck is wide, but feels fantastic. Mine is passive, and the pickups sound great.

Assuming this thread is fairly dead as its been 3 years since the last message but wanted a vc for a while and last week managed to get one. The saddles unfortunatley have been hacked away by the bloke who owned it before the fella i got it off. This means that the strings dont sit right and it dosent play well at all. The bloke before me reckoned it would be a 400-500 job to get these remade and have the grooves cut in but working in engineering i took the risk that i knew the right people. Any purists out there will be glad to know that i managed to buy the right size piece of brass for about a fiver and a machinist at my work is going to cut the new saddles out of this piece and i am then going to get the grooves cut in and have the bass set up by a proffesional luthier. The bass has emg pickups and im not sure whats going on with the electronics but they are active so of anyone has any info would be much appriciated. I will attatch some pictures of the bass and i also found out earlier today that it is dated November 1977 and is s/n #12 so am very happy that i am restoring it to its former glory.

Beautiful! That’s one of the “upper level” ones, with the fancy laminated body, and birdseye grains.
A shame the original pickups are gone, but I think you will find it to be a great sounding bass.
Good luck with the restoration! (And please post more closeup pics!)

Hi all,

Apoligies for this taking a while to respond. Cant remember where the bass was at last time i posted on here but its been finished for ages now. Ill attatch some photos of the saddle pieces and the bridge all assembled on and off the bass. Its the best playing bass ive ever layed my hands on and i love it to bits best instrument ive ever seen. So glad ive managed to get it just jealous of everyone with more than one.

Nathan.

I was thinking about selling mine recently, as I am going to be moving out of the country, and need to downsize my collection.
I took it to a gig, and remembered what a great bass it is, so I sold a couple of my Rickenbackers instead!

:hyper:my new baby arrived today:hyper:...bastard Customs and Excise kept her for an additional two days and charged me £199.13 (nearly $300) for the privilege...I already own a Jaydee Supernatural and Warwick Dolphin (along with a Crafter Acoustic, Ashbury and 5 string Corvette)..but the VC is BY FAR the best bass i've ever played!!!

I contacted Harvey and told him so...

VC must be the best kept secret of all time - glad i'm in on it...:smug:

This is me in an earlier life. I couldn't remember my username or password so created a new account.

Shortly after buying the fretted VC I managed to find a single pickup fretless, making me the owner of two of the (we believe) three VCs in the UK.

At the time I wasn't really a fretless player so sold it on, to my regret.

I still own the VC , in the same time I have bought and sold over 50 basses seeking that unobtainable tone. Of all the basses which have passed through my hands only the VC has fulfilled my expectations.

As with other makes, I actually prefer the look of the less fancy models like yours.
Your 2 pickup looks very much like mine, only mine has the glued in factory thumb rest.
(I wish it didn’t, as i find it detracts a bit from the look, and besides I’m a floating thumb player, anyway.)
My bass is missing the trussrod cover. If you have a moment sometime, could you remove and photograph yours?
