Dunno how legal it is that I pay the tax versus anyone else--but it sure feels appropriate.

Your band members are required to report the income they receive from you. If you pay any of them $600 or more in a year, you are required to file 1099s for those payments.

The fact that you pay taxes on the entirety of the income you receive is not really relevant to whether the people you are paying need to report or pay taxes on their shares. It just means that you have overpaid your own tax liability by not deducting the amounts that you have in turn paid out to them.
 
The reason I asked is because in the one band I sub for the keyboard player says he doesn't need to declare/pay taxes because the BL supposedly does on the income. If that were the case then why would anyone pay taxes if they are an employee since your Employer is paying taxes already. I cover my a** and claim the money anyway.
No it's not legal. You can't transfer your tax obligation in this instance.
