Vertical 212?

Neither you or I mentioned Berg or lds cabs in our posts. I have no intent to price them out , I wouldn't doubt that they over 1200. Quite frankly I'm not sure why you would bring that up. The OP never mentioned a budget either. I simple said for that price point it better be awesome.

I mentioned it because you stated that the Magellan cabinet had better be a fantastic cabinet for that much money or something like that, but didn't seem to have an issue with similar cabinets that cost much more. That's all.

Comfy to me. I'm only 5' 9 so might be a different story with someone who is a lot taller. The top edge of the cab hits about hip level so it's not like I have to bend over to wheel it around.

Best cab I've ever owned. Amazing a cab this light can handle any situation I put it in. No more worries about my cab being able to keep up.

Bending over to wheel it was my question! We are the same height, so it sounds like I wouldn't have any issue either

Yeah... I don't see it being an issue for you, at least with a Big Twin II. If you need a good idea of how much you may have to bend over, set a tape measure to 33.5" and angle it in front of you.

Volume and weight were a big factor for me as well, it sounds incredible too! It was a bit of a leap of faith for me to make that kind of an investment on a cab without hearing it first, but I am so glad that I did.

Cool and thanks for the update. I am deep in my 212 consideration phase and the Barefaced Supertwin is at the top of my list - so was a Berg HDN212 up till a week ago.

I had a chance to compare the Berg to a Mesa 12/15 stack and I greatly preferred the Mesa's. I am not really looking for a modular solution so that leaves the Barefaced - but I am a little unsure about buying something I can't try.

What did you prefer about the 12/15 stack to the HDN?

Just to add some options to the list of vertical 2x12s: Audiokinesis Hathor or Thunderchild 2x12s, Mike Arnopol/MAS 112 or Bodai 112.

I picked up a Hathor 1203 (1x12 cab with a 3" mid) recently. Based on my experience with that, I think the 2x12 version would be swell.

A MAS 112 has been my main cab for some time. Form factor (skinny, ~32" tall, 16" deep, if I recall correctly) and output make it functionally a "good 2x12" (which is basically how I think of mine).

The Thunderchild cabs I haven't tried (except for a very brief run-in with one, years ago), but they're supposed to be more hifi and a bit deeper than the Hathors. The MAS Bodai series cabs I also haven't tried, but they are definitely on my list.

What did you prefer about the 12/15 stack to the HDN?

I spent quite a bit of time with both - in-store only - same bass and amp (Mesa D800+).

The Berg was definitely mid-forward and had some girth to the tone in the high-mids which I like - but it didn't have the low-end punch, clarity and evenness of the Subway all the way through.

The Berg was a very good cab, I just preferred the 12/15.

I went in hoping for the opposite.

worth mentioning, once OP gets to the point of pricing out the options, that Don at LDS is very reasonable in his pricing. He's built three cabs for me, all of them using top shelf components (3012 or 3015 drivers, etc), and the cost was much lower then I would have expected. Moreover, each of my builds had custom features that would not be available on a commercial offering.

+1 for Bergantino HDN212. I've also owned a CN212. Both great cabs. Now Bergantino also has an NV212 for a more vintage vibe.


I haven't played, but I bet the Genzler 212 cab is great too.

Loudest, lightest vertical 212 takes the cake for me.
