Vibrating Ashdown Cab

I just bought an Ashdown MAG 115 deep cab for use with the MAG 300 amp but right out of the box I have found that this thing is making some horrible overdriven/vibrating noises whenever a play a high E note and while I would not call myself an expert I would hazard a guess that this is not meant to happen, but could this possibly be an issue with the amp/bass?

I'm guessing that since it is only happening on certain frequencies it is actually something to do with the construction of the cab itself?

Make sure that it is not something in the room that is resonating. I have this problem in my practice room - there is something resonating that doesn't happen in other rooms.

Then I would check to see that all the screws are tight - back, grille and driver. If that doesn't work, I'd open it and look for something that could be loose and vibrating or touching the speaker cone, etc. or a loose brace.

Good luck with that!

I've had my fair share of annoying vibrating cabs.

The grille can often be to blame, depending on how it's mounted. I've also had loose allen bolts on the tweeter magnet assembly, loose metal rings on the front of the tweeter (where the text is printed - the glue seems to fail) loose screws etc.

My Warwick cab has a dry glue joint on the wooden panels, so the back/side rattles like crazy in the top corner - hence this cab is in the garage, unused....

If it was me, I'd pull the cab to bits and then put it back together. Get some black foam tape and stick it so that the grill cannot possibly rattle against anything. Make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight. Check the speaker seals tight onto the baffle. Check for loose wires inside. If it moves - silicone it down!!

It seems that bass was almost invented to make things rattle and buzz.....

Cheers,

Jim

Yeah I'm planning on moving it out of the room and testing it somewhere else. If the problem persists would it simply be worth trying to get a replacement cab from Ashdown rather than taking it apart?
