I was watching the Nine Inch Nails: And All That Could Have Been tour DVD and Robin Finck uses a little hand-held thing that he held on his string and it vibrated and made very long, drawn out, droning notes. Anyone ever seen one or know what it is?

I borrowed my guitarist's one and i couldn't get a single sound out of it. :D The strings may be too thick to excite.

Manring uses 2, FWIW.

FWIW, the string has to be in the exact center of the Ebow (the magnetic field) to vibrate. IME, it works best if you brace the bottom of it on the next string and play passages ONLY on the string the Ebow is on.

I have one of these - don't use it much, but it does make some cool sounds - try it with a fretless, tons of chorus, a flanger, and an overdrive (all at once)!!! :bassist:
