Vibrato pitch range?

Does anyone know what the range of pitch shift is on some of the deeper vibrato pedals out there? Half step? Full step? More or less? I'm thinking about ordering a Molten Midi for my HOG and am curious what a good vibrato range would be to ask for.

Thanks,

Chad

What sounds good to you? More than a half step is getting into experimental territory, rather than the sound of real string bending vibrato. For me, as much shift as is possible would be ideal: huge pitch shifts (like an octave) at high speed begin to sound like FM synthesis. But if you want a more natural sound, you'll be using a semitone or less.

As long as you can specify a range, without having to be at maximum all the time, I'd go for as much shift as possible. But that's me. You can always turn the depth of the LFO down, but at a certain point you can't turn it up any more.

That's the thing, I'm not sure I can enter a range. I think I probably have to enter a value. My plan is to use the MIDI to push my 5th up sliders to the next octave and have them do a vibrato above and below that. The Molten MIDI is a 10 position switch and a footswitch that toggles between MIDI instructions.

Thanks for the info. That is about where I figured the spread would be. I will probably throw some extreme settings in there and experiment with what the presets sound like in different settings:bassist:, but I wanted to have a few 'usable' settings planned out ahead of time.

If you can only select between a few specific values, I would go for something like this (assuming you can devote this many slots to the vibrato):

sixth tone (third of a semitone)
quartertone
semitone
whole tone
fifth
octave

That should give you a nice spread of usable, normal vibrato, and the ability to do crazy stuff if the mood strikes.
