Victor Bailey Sig.

In this Video on youtube on Victor Baileys Sig bass

He talks about puting in a peice of Mahogony on the back for bottom sound. And a thing layer of rosewood in the middle of the bass to add treble.

Does adding those woods really make a difference

This has been discussed a thousand times. Many (like me) believe the wood makes a significant contribution in shaping tone. However, many do not. In the end the only question that really matters is; what do "your" ears tell you?

Makes a huge difference, I took my Victor bailey to an open jam last night and ended up playing almost half the night! Other bassist just watched with facial contortions :D as I thumped and popped through the night (it got real funky). When I stopped playing audience members even approached me to comment on how good the bass sounded!

I think that it is you the player making the bass sound good more than the bass. Let's face it, if you can play, you can make anything sound good. Jaco sounded like Jaco on anything. Elvin Jones changed drum and cymbal companies at least 6 times and he ALWAYS sounded like Elvin! :-) Don't get me wrong. I think the VB basses are great basses, but your hands and ears are 90% of the battle. :hyper:

what you say is true but something about that bass, the way it sounds compared to other jazzes. It has a very strong mid presence as well as a very "clean" pre when bass or treble is boosted. The thump and pops remain clean with the bass fully boosted and with the treble boosted fully you get "ping" like pops with no hint of shrillness what so ever! A very articulate bass!!! If you suck it will tell the audience on you!!!:D
