Unfortunately, I'd have to put Weather Report in there, as well.
I did not like too much of it back then...and was called a dinosaur for it. In my early 20s, at that.

Zawinul and midi was a bad combo. Too much sonic space was swallowed up, and the great WR albums used space to great effect.

I like the Procession album with Victor. But the albums after that didn’t do it for me.

That was a treat. Saw Bailey at a gig in Tokyo around 1990 after he'd been working with Weather report. Jacko's old manager was working with him and I got chatting to both of them about Jacko and other things. Really nice people. Great player. Great gig!

I am a devotee of Victor Bailey's bass tone, and I think he was a soulful bassist who took the instrument very seriously. I loved the tone of Victor Bailey's red Jazz Bass on the Procession and Domino Theory albums.



I personally think Victor Bailey was a great replacement for Jaco, too bad a lot of Victor Bailey's playing is eclipsed by the many synthesizers on those Weather Report albums.

Probably the Pensa Suhr VB model. He played that bass until Fender did a signature model largely based on the Pensa Suhr, both quite nice JBass variants.
