Victor Lemonte Wooten

Victor Wooten is certainly one of the greatest bass players that will ever exist. His techniques really bring out the music from the bass and i think he really promotes the bass as an instrument rather than just a background sound. He is truelly inspirational to listen to and see. This forum should probably be used as a discussion place for his music and technique.

To victor wooten PEACE!

Victor wooten? (rolleyes)

He can't play clean to save his life, always sloppy ugly sounding double-thumping played twice as fast as he can handle and all the noobs who worship flea thinks he's a god..

He can't write good music to save his life either..

Listen to some real bassplayers instead, sting, mccartney, rutger gunnarson etc..

^ It's true that you can hear a lot of fret noise sometimes with Wooten, but that counts for a lot of bassists, and for some it's just part of their style, it doesn't mean they can't play clean, just raise the action on their bass a bit and they're there :p .

Oh and this has to be one of the most impressive jams I've ever seen:

i'm not talking about fretnoise, when wooten plays fast every note sounds higher and lower in volume then the other one, it sounds like a huge mess and when he starts to double-thump in the higher register there is there is no tention in strings when he slaps so it just sounds extremy weak and ugly..

Yeah sometimes that's true. Anyhow I respect him very much, even though it's not entirely my style, and you have to respect his technical abilities and control.
Well, i just questioned his technical ability and control.

Somebody who constantly plays above their level does not have control at all, someone who can't play clean don't got technique..

:D OK, I get it, I don't want to convert you. It's just that he has been a great influence for many bassists, and not only those who can't play clean. He has developped techniques and a speed that are very impressive to me, and it also irritates me that he doesn't sound very clean a lot of the time, but that doesn't make him a bad bassist to me.

I can accept that you don't appreciate his technical abilities, but who are you to say that he doesn't have any, when there are thousands of bassists looking up to him and getting inspiration from him, amateurs as well as well respected pros.

You guys putting down Victor must really be good. Please post your Utube performances so we can see how it should be done.

Hey, you guys? Did you even read my posts? I was actually saying that I respect him a LOT, even though he can sound a bit sloppy sometimes IMO. And no I can't play as well as he does, and I will never be able to, but that's not my ambition either :) .

Victor has said at clinics before that his tapping style isn't the most proficient or cleanest out there. But it works for the music that he likes to create and that's all that he cares about.

At this point in his career, I don't think he has to worry about trying to impress people...
