Victor Wooten is second teir skill wise now

I've never been one to be uber impressed by wankdom and I'd say that guy falls under this category. Technically a good player and likely knows his stuff but I found myself not caring after about 20 seconds. I find more soul in one of BB Kings bent tones than 1,000 of that guys precisely executed notes.
To musicality is something that is beyond what technical ability can offer. Vic is a much more musical player although I'm sure he could play what we saw in the original videos. When Vic plays I feel him and that's what it's about.

I've seen some pretty aberrant hermafro's in my time, but this takes the cake, he/she's got talent!
This guy is amazing... but Victor is in a whole different class. Victor has the whole package, style, groove, grace, and total musicality thru years of music education, hard work and practice.
This guy is a product of wood shedding playing patterns over and over as fast as possible. I think it would be fairer to compare him with Billy Sheehan than Victor and I think he would make Billy nervous.

You guys nailed it. Hjfreaks slapping serves the song as well, rather than being wankerish Guitar Center fare.
Not sure what that says about the song though.... lol.
The only thing Masaki has over Hjfreaks is tons of pretentiousness. And that's not a good thing.
He sounds like he's been spending years learning to play fast, and no time learning what to play.

So you can play guitar wankery on a bass! Let's just give you the gold medal for "Who gives a &%#@?!?" because, personally (and I've read from a few people on here who would agree with me), I think bassists like this guy are annoying.
I like bass as BASS. Technical is good, but unless it sounds good with the whole band, it just sounds like audible diarrhea.
I give Wooten his props, but I can't stand listening to his solo stuff either. It's musical and he can write entire operas with his left hand... but for me, it's not fun to listen to.

This guy isn't doing anything of substance. Anybody can play fast, only a few can actually use technique to move and inspire. The only thing this guy inspired me to do was stop watching the video before it reached the end.

The original video at the opening of this thread is a prime example of what Wooten was saying in his latest interview in Bass Player, that there are tons of videos on YouTube with players that are good technique-wise, but lack any sort of feeling.

I have a hard time listening to more than 3 songs in a row off of Jaco's debut album. Just don't get into 'Bass Albums' of songs.
Is he talented? Yes.
Does it sound good when the audience is drunk and contemplateing calling in work the next day?
No.

Personally, I don't mind the OP Masaki as the guy is pretty much Japan's Billy Sheehan - except Sheehan's proven himself more versatile over the years and genres.
As for Casiopea's Sakurai Tetsuo, I've only heard him half a year ago when I stumbled upon Casiopea, but he fit in there perfectly.
Hell,I guess I'm missing out on something. I had no idea that Vic ever had this style of music "cornered" in his career. Totally different players. Wait,there was that one Cannibal Corpse tour that he filled in for Alex Webster. My bad......
Certianly fast with alot of effects,I bet really loud too. With me its all about the groove,I didn't feel it . Victor like many other really good players,could actually play one note ,on one ,and you can feel it. Like Bootsy said"its all about the one". Just my opie
