Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey & Gregg Bissonette. Who's going?

I just got tickets to the Victor Wooten Bass Extremes concert at Rams Head in Annapolis, MD in May. I've seen him a couple of times before and it's always an extraordinary experience.

Anyone else from the Maryland area going?

Or are you going (have you already been?) in your area?

It's a pleasant surprise every time. He's a very musical player. It's not all plickety plackety triplets all night. He's an entertainer first and foremost. And he's an awesome human being. Same goes for Steve.

I may have to take a drummer friend to the Newport VA show. Vic is from there. When he plays in this area interesting characters from his past make guest appearances at the shows. It's always fun. (When he played Raleigh with his trio, a father and son showed up that Vic knew as a kid working at Busch Gardens theme park. They were jugglers and had taught Vic how to juggle all those years ago. He's actually quite good at it and it was a sweet moment to see him perform something fun with some old friends.) And Bissonette is a monster drummer too.

It's very entertaining. I've seen him a few times and I've attended a seminar he did nearby. Every time I leave inspired and wanting to quit .

I think he still has quite a few local students. In recent years, he's definitely leaned into Skype lessons with students all over the world, which seems to work since he travels so much. I asked him how many students he thinks he has. It was high enough that he had no idea. I do know his most famous student is probably Sinbad. He showed up at a symposium Ant was teaching outside DC. Dude was freaking hilarious.

I've taken lessons from Ant at his house and he has a nice streaming studio setup in his basement... along with a bass collection that will put anyone on TB to shame, not to mention a giant safe filled with about $100k in Foderas. Really impressive.

I saw both shows in Seattle. It's a fun band and they are playing pretty gnarly, technically-demanding music. If you like seeing bass players really pushing themselves then it's totally worth the price of admission.

Yes! I'm going to the City Winery in Atlanta and actually planning my first ever multi-day backpacking trip with my room mate and our dogs the week after. I saw Jerry Douglas's band there and its a great sit-down-at-table type venue. I already have a bass signed by Vic, so that box is checked but I do have the Bass Extremes DVD that would be neat to get signed by the whole band.
