Victor Wooten's Groove Workshop

sayman said:
Yes sir, I concur - that's generally what I was getting at in regards to "Vanity Recording". Only I guess you don't even have to pay someone anymore to publish your own work.

I think it's a good thing, though. More tools for musicians is always welcome.

Anthony, I get what you're saying. But despite the ubiquitous of home-grown CD's, I'd still rather listen to one of yours.

"Ubiquitousness", is what I meant to say.

Thank you!

That DVD has done a lot to help get my name on 'the map'. I'm very thankful that Victor let me be a part of that. It wasn't even decided until the day before the shoot that I was gonna' be in it. The people at Hudson wasn't even aware that I was gonna' be in it. I didn't even want to be in it. I was too nervous and I hadn't shaved(hee hee). But I'm really glad that I was.

I'm in the beginning stages of my DVD. I can't wait til it's done. I have tons of cool concepts to help people play better. A lot of them will be in this DVD.

peace,
anthony

I am very glad you made it onto the DVD. Having studied with both of you, I feel you both compliment each other very well in bass instruction. I see how your philosophies help further all aspects of a player's development.

May the best of 2011 be the worst of 2012 for you, Ant. Cheers!

Thanks 5sg,

The DVD is a compressed version of the bass camp curriculum. I've benefited from watching Victor teach his '2-10' curriculum for over 10 years now and always learn something new each time he teaches it. I'm very fortunate to be a part of the bass camp staff.

anthony

I sent my letter of intent for the camp in May just last week, will you be teaching at this years?

Hey SBassman,

I personally think it's a very good and informative DVD. It was released as a 'bass' DVD but it applies equally well to all instruments because the DVD is about musicianship.

I hoe you're able to find it. And let me know what you think.

Victor put together a very helpful resource. I'm fortunate to have contributed a little to it.

peace,
anthony

+1 to Anthony's comment. I had that thought after I watched it the first time... It could apply well to any musician, it just so happens that it features bassists. I told the keyboard player at my church about it, she checked it out and she agreed that it was a great approach to playing.

5sg.

It is the same as displacement. The important component of the 'yardstick' is the visual representation of time. And that's what you don't get when you only think of it as rhythmic displacement. The visual representation is what makes people say 'I get it'.

It's funny I came up with the 'yardstick' 20 years ago. My Bassology students laugh because they thought it was something that everyone was taught.

I got the Groove Workshop DVD and actually didn't watch it for a couple of months (I know, I know...shame on me). I was enveloped in another project. Sat down and watched the whole thing in one day. As you and Victor traveled through each section I found myself going "oh my God, I never thought of it that way". Even though the video put very little focus on physical technique I can say I got more out of it than another instructional media that I have studied. I actually went out that night to an informal open mic, got on stage and did things (from a technique perspective) that I had never attempted. It felt like I had been doing it for years. I have watched it twice since, every time I still throw in an, "Ahh", "omg" or "it can't be that easy". People ask where did I learn and I always tell them get Groove Workshop.

Anthony where do you teach?

I'm sure everyone has pretty much covered everything I could say but I'm just going to go ahead and thank you and Victor for this DVD. It's not just a bass lesson, it's a music lesson. I've watched it 3 times already and I still find myself learning something new every time I watch it. I would recommend this to anyone that feels like there's something missing in their music. Good luck to you with your record and I'm really looking forward to your new DVD.

I'd also like to know if any of the students in the DVD have any work I could check out. All of them are quality bassists as far as I can tell and i'd love to see where the lesson has taken them in their musical career.
