He's a monster! Maybe the "funkiest" bass player ever.

In the early 90s I was a Mark King (Level 42) and Stu Zender (Jamiroquai) fan, now I'm in the Vincen Garcia and Justin Raines era.

My favorite bass players who influenced my approach the most:
- Mark King (Level 42)
- Louis Johnson (Brothers Johnson, Michael Jackson) - and why I'm a MM Stingray fan!
- Stu Zender (Jamiroquai)
- Johann Asmundsson (Mezzoforte)
- Alain Caron (UZEB)
- Jonas Hellborg (Mahavishnu Orchestra)
- Tom Kennedy (Dave Weckl Band)

Lately: Justin Raines, Andrew Gouche and Vincen Garcia.

Not Vulfpeck, that's Vincen playing with Cory Wong - and crushing it! While I appreciate Johannes and Sonny T on bass with Cory, Vincen brings a whole different heat.

Vincen is an absolute beast, his technique and groove are insane. On top of that, he's a humble and super approachable guy. A true source of pride for all of us Spaniards bass players who aspire to reach even a mere 10% of what he's capable of.

This year he is touring Europe with his own band. He is well known on social media as well.

Being a great fan of all things SonnyT, this is how I first became aware of him.

I was speaking of specifically on talkbass. He doesn’t get much mention here .

He is a monster!

Buuut, (I'm trying to answer the question and not get battered here!) I think this is a problem with social media and social media bassists. Yes, monster player, insane player, I've tried playing his stuff and I can't get anywhere near it! I really like him! He pops up constantly on the Instagram and other guitar players and musicians and they make these short videos for the likes. And it all comes off as slimey, cheap, narcissistic, arrogant, and they as people come off as really unlikeable. But then, I am a middle-aged man who isn't the target of these social media musicians' videos, so take that as it is. I know I'm not 'down with the kids' and 'with it' and the modern young musician must use social media to get the gigs and the exposure (I knew this 10 years ago when studying music at uni). Maybe it's just the social media musician is all about "look at me" and even when there's a video with a few of them, they are all trying so hard to be cool and grab attention from the camera. When I was a young lad, if you had to do that, you went the cool kids! It's cringey. Rant over! In social media musicians defence, it is difficult to stand out from the crowd.

However, his technique is mind blowing! And I've learnt so much from him. His album is pretty good! I think he is pretty well known, he did pick up a gig with Cory after all! Maybe once he picks up more gigs with top players his name will be more prominent. He is also the reason I want a Yamaha BB now!

He’s gonna be around for a long time, and will ultimately go down as one of the greater players of the instrument. Love that kid

This video makes you appreciate what a genius musician Garcia clearly is. Who else could take on such a complex project with such stringent conditions and such a short lead time (24 hrs!) AND SUCCEED!! Amazing.
