I have a bass that I wasn't playing as much because it started to become uncomfortable (a tad heavy for my liking). I told my wife I was thinking of selling it and she responded the same way yours did. I still have it and I still barely play it.

This really only applies to pre-CBS Fenders, and honestly I’ve seen refinished vintage pieces sell for decent money (Kebo’s).

Otherwise no need to listen to others opinions, it's your bass. I've been insulted and trashed for the paint job on my Musicmaster but no one knows the story of the condition it was in when it was given to me.

That wear isn't too bad to my eyes. Looks kinda cool. I'd leave it, honestly I'd probably wind up playing it more than a pristine instrument that I was scared to take out of the house.
Yup ... I'm going to leave her glorious scars alone and just try and get her technologically back in shape.
