Vintage bass quandry

This really only applies to pre-CBS Fenders, and honestly I’ve seen refinished vintage pieces sell for decent money (Kebo’s).

It pretty much applies to all years and all brands across the board.
But don't take my word for it. Look on ebay. A refinished checkerboard binding 4001 recently sold for $1,800. That pretty much half of what he could have gotten for it if it had the original finish. There's a refinished '79 Pbass that sold for $900. That's close to half the going price for an unmolested example. And so on, and so on....

You may have seen some refinished pieces sell for decent money. But they'd have gotten much more decent money if the instrument wasn't refinished.

The only REAL issue with it is that the body cavity, where the effects cartidges would go into and connect has been totally stripped.

It doesn't look like it's been stripped in the photos. Looks as if you just need the tone cartridges. Or am I missing something??

I certainly understand your dilemma.
I have a 78-79 Guild B-302 that I love but ...
Its in fantastic condition given its age however, someone tried to fix some buckle-rash on the back by camouflaging with black paint (on a tobacco-burst).
I wish I could just get the black crap off of it.

Ah yes, the Electra Outlaw bass with the effects cartridges. Chris Squire played one of those, with the flanger effect, for the songs Cinema and Tempus Fugit.

I considered commenting on what a homely instrument your bass is but refrained. (That ain't cool and no one asked.) Besides, Grandma used to always say, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Grandma was pretty wise.

& as for the electronics, yeah--it'd be very very cool to find a harness, or set of cartridge connectors, however it's set up. Never know what someone's got sitting on ebay, and I'd wager that the module cavities are uniformly sized across basses, maybe across guitars too (to only have to tool one size of module & connector)...though whether the plastic parts of those kinds of connectors will still be in one piece may be another matter.
