Vintage Brit in Portugal

Hi!
I am so old that England were still World Football (soccer) Champions when I was born, been down here in Portugal since '96, but hail from Essex (UK) - but the nice saily end

My daughter started bass a while ago (and also sings in a band at School of Rock, Lisbon) and I tried bass more recently, and got hooked

I'm so at the beginning of learning that everything is new and a joy - love it to bits
It's just meditation for me, I dont care how good I dont get
(my daughter learns better in 10 mins what takes me 10 days to try to learn)
I can just about struggle through Stranglers - Peaches, Clash - Guns of Brixton, A/DC - Little Lover and a few other of my favourites - not at all properly but it feels sooo good (family not 100% in agreement)

A muso friend helped me choose my first ever Bass (or instrument) - A Sire Marcus Miller V3 2nd gen in satin black, which I now sleep with (Wife not too happy 'bout that)

I got a little Hotone Thunder Bass Nano Bass Head, for practicing with my phones
I want to save my pennies for a Markbass Micromark 801

And I have ended up with a Celestion PULSE XL 10.20 10" Bass speaker, for which I am going to now make a cab (post here)

Otherwise, I am a fanatical sailor, and a totally geeky (wife's appraisal) research engineer (Naval architecture)

Welcome! Sounds like you're having fun with bass, which is the best way to keep it!
I love Lisbon, been there 3 times on holiday and am considering retiring there, although a recent visit to Porto has me possibly reconsidering.

Lisbon and Porto have been human polluted with mass tourism, no soul left and over-expensive. Lovely places for a holiday tho.

But I live just south of the Lisbon River, near the most southerly of the Costa (de Caparica) 20 km stretch of beach(es) - its lovely here, completely different kettle of fish
If you really are serious about retiring here, a good friend of mine (English, well, nearly - he is Mancunian, which might be more acceptable for you ) is in real estate and knows his stuff about best areas for different budgets and tastes etc. Surprisingly, despite being Mancunian AND an estate agent - he is trustworthy and a general good human bean.

A good book to read about what they are really like is 'The Portuguese' by Barry Hatton
Its not all like you think, or always smells of roses, but its never boring, and the various corrupt governments haven't managed to bugger up the weather, yet

I'm completely integrated, married an Alfacinha and even managed to learn the lingo (But proudly sport a terrible English accent - well, I am from the Essex / Suffolk border)
