I'm in the market for a jazz bass, as I don't have on in my arsenal and I have £300 gift voucher that can be used on Amazon ready and waiting.
My main squeeze is a Yamaha Attitude, and I'm rather partial to chunky baseball necks (I also have a couple of Warwicks and a very cheap Chinese MM ripoff that has a wonderfully baseball-bat-like neck) and I have found my fretting hand tend to cramp up on skinny necks.
I was initially looking at the Squier VM and CV series, but I'm not sure how I'll get on with the traditional skinny neck, but upon the recommendation of a guitarists friend, I've been reminded of the Vintage range. It appears that the VJ74 Icon model has a wider nut width compared to the VJ74 Reissue model. As I understand it, the Icon has been modelled on a 74 Jazz which I hear were famed for their U shaped chunky necks.
Does anyone have any experience with this bass as none of the local shops stock this brand anymore? Can anyone confirm the neck is chunky?
FWIW, my backup bass, a lower end Attitude has a wide neck, but quite a thin C profile which I struggle with. It's also a P/J which I initially thought would help me get close to those jazz bass tones, but I have quickly learned that it's a messy configuration and better suited to just being played as a P bass.
