Beautiful work! Makes me want to get out in my shop more. And it's 100 degrees out.
I have just a few questions:
* Where do you live?
* When are you normally away from the house?
* Do you have a dog/nosy neighbors?
* What is your stance on firearms (in case a mistake is made and you are home)?

This has been a very enjoyable read! As a new builder, my woodworking tool arsenal is quite modest. Big fan of hand planes and scrapers though!

Thanks for all the comments! I appreciate the kind words. I started working on version 2 of the Archtop Acoustic Bass Guitar a couple weeks ago. I have pictures of what I've done so far and will start another thread in a couple days and pick up that build.

Ahhh somehow missed the scraper tutorial. Thank you!!!! I am currently using my standard cabinet scraper to smooth out the back after wing glue up. I like your idea much, much better! I even have a decent burr but the stiffness gets a bit tiring!
Nice Rich! Do you have any larger planes? A Stanley #8 is my favorite for jobs like that, but anything down to a #5 would work great at leveling that. A lot of transitions going on in those neck/body joint areas. Looks like you have some fun shaping ahead of you! I'm keeping an eye on your thread, looking forward to seeing more.

How did I miss this!?! What a beautiful instrument! Threads like this are what make the LC such a great place, excellent tutorials by amazing craftspeople and stellar instruments too!
Any advice on the use of hand planes or good resources to learn more would be a huge help for me personally. I've exhausted the youtube videos and have ruined a good amount of scrap trying to practice but still can't get consistent results.

I am (nearly) speechless. That is drop dead gorgeous work in a very old school tradition, but still a fresh design. I love every detail on this bass, its a future heirloom that will long outlive you, hope you signed it inside too.

All I can really say is WOW and thanks. Reaaaaaaaally motivating for a newbie like me.
And I have a question about the rasps. I think I've missed something due to language (I'm spanish). Did you bend the edge of the file once you had it completely sharped? So it's almost perpendicular to the rasp, and easier to handle?
I'm asking cause I used to be a chef, so understand a bit about sharpening things, and that's the last thing I ever thought someone would do to something just sharpened...
