I left it in our rehearsal space and the next week it wasn't working. I think there were shennanigans but I didn't spend much time on it

The adapters are kinda bad. They are also hard to come by. Even if it powers on, the adapter might still be affecting the function. I'd check that before opening it up.
the older qtrons are the best of the bunch, they just all have a pretty noticeable volume boost when you engage the effect, i always had to have a compressor after mine.
Used big box qtron, qtron+, XO qtron+(got the best compliments on this one oddly enough) and a micro, all of them have the same volume boost "feature" even with boost set off. I've gone to the MXR M82, its very much like an FX25 in style of filter, it works best with an active bass, my passives have a hard time getting the filter to open.
But I'm always going to hold onto my Qtrons, weird obsession for them :/

My big box qtron+ has no volume bump even if the boost switch is engaged. The boost switch simply engages the gain wherever the gain knob is set. When in normal, the gain is just a sensitivity knob and adds no extra volume. I find the boost pointless really, it really just gets you to clip the filter more easily. I keep the gain lower than 50%, the filter sounds better when not oversaturated.
The volume bump you may be experiencing is the result of the envelope being changed, which is normal and is what the effects are designed to do. Those transients need to be controlled by a compressor, which you should have if your going to use an envelope filter. The big box QTrons seem to have more controllable transients, especially with the MIX mode engaged. The DOD FX25 sounds great, but its transients are wild and loud, and find myself using a lower sensitivity to balance low end loss. Those transients can ruin speakers.

you're lucky then, all of my qtrons have a noticeable volume boost in the low end, most noticeable in a band context, you should see the looks i get when i engage the pedal, the room just gets flooded in funky low end envelope, and whilst it's awesome, it pisses off sound guys and drowns everyone out. I've always run compressors after it but have to use a more extreme setting to tame the filter. Believe me I'm a qtron man but I'm slowly becoming a MXR convert.
Haha i experience this with the DOD but not the qtrons. You gotta do whatever works for ya tho...
Your not over-saturating the filter tho? The sound can be a bit thick when that happens.
