Viola Bass

I'm sure lots of people do... were you wonding something more specific than if they've sold one before?

I guess more specifically how are they to play, were you disappointed with anything about it, Is it what you thought, hows the quality, sound.. Just a general is it a descent purchase I guess..
My Icon plays and sounds great. I have played the real deal, and for my purposes, the Icon is more than close enough. I just put LaBella Beatle Bass flats on it (.050-.100), that with a foam mute and a pick, it's McCartneyville. High-quality, well-made instrument to boot.
The Epiphones are nice, get great reviews, as are a variety of other violin basses by Douglas, Turser, et.al.
The Icon offers the same pickup/control knob configuration and overall looks as the original, which gave it the edge for me.
Do a search here and you'll get more information on this subject than you can read in a day.
I own both. I greatly prefer the Icon for playability, aesthetics, and tone much closer to the originals than the Viola.
Thats good to know because I haven't purchased either one yet so Im still deciding..

I think it's a Rogue. I seem to recall that being discussed here before. He's probably the only pro using one, but they are good viola basses and probably the only Rogue I'd buy. I've had one a few years now and it's got some pretty heavy flats on it (Fender 9050ML) but the neck is stable and the tone is straight Hofner.
Well there ya go. I also seem to recall seeing a pic of him playing it posted here on TB.
The Rogue VB100 and flats is hard to beat for the low upfront cost. I have used and gigged mine for years with no problems. They were out of production for awhile and I liked them enough to buy an extra one for backup.
Practiced on a Hofner the other night 2-3 hours with the band, as battery had failed in my Precision Lyte.
Hofner short scale was much lighter than my under 8 pound bass, had better highs, weak lows. Significantly reset tone settings on the amp, from treble heavy for the PL to bass heavy for the Hofner - so I thought it had significantly less low end, more high end.
Feels more like guitar size. May be the lightest bass ever. It would probably lower your energy expenditures over the course of a gig, as you would learn how to pluck lighter, etc. If you're a heavy plucker or picker, there's not much mass to keep it from moving. Heck, its lighter than any guitars I've owned.
