Virginia Bassists

It's a free show, basically it's one of Victor's clinic dates with his contract with Hartke/Samson. I'm going to be there early, though -I want a decent seat, and I have a feeling this will be standing room only.

Just a word to help the guys at Alpha out - please call Dave, Damien, or one of the other guys in the bass department and let them know you're coming - it'll help them get an idea of what to plan for.

Tim, looked for you at the clinic. Amazing clinic, they spent from 7 to almost midnight teaching & talking/signing swag etc. Great advice and philosophy.

So how's the post Navy life treating you? We should try to put together a gathering for this summer, lemme know.

I was there from right at 7 till about 9, sitting WWAAYY in the back. Stayed long enough to see enough, and didn't really feel like staying later - no offense to Victor or Anthony, of course, but most of what they said were iterations of things I'd already learned - and I definitely didn't feel like getting caught in the crush. :hiding:

Anyway, post-Navy is awesome, but the job market is tough. My "sure-thing" job fell through with the budget cuts, and I'm having a hard time of it at the moment. It'll come around, I've got some good prospects, and I'm eternally optimistic. :bassist:

I do want to organize a GTG, but I've been kinda sporadic around here lately, as most of my time in front of the computer involves writing/re-writing resumes and cover letters, but I'm hopeful that come June I'll have an easier time.

That being said, when time comes, I think I'm going to set up something on the peninsula - Newport News or even farther north. A shorter drive for some of our NoVa and Richmond brethren might entice them to come out, and I don't mind driving that far.

Elkton's a bit of a hike from Charlottesville unless you live in Green Co.

I'm in two bands Addison Brady Band and Acoustic Creek. Acoustic Creek is not really a C'Ville band as most of the guys are in Culpeper and the singer is in Richmond. We're trying to find a practice space between Charlottesville and Richmond.

Cool, more C'ville folks!

I'm playing in a blues band that is *trying* :help: to get off the ground over in Elkton (I work on that side of the mountain).

How about you?

I play in two bands in and around Charlottesville.

Link Removed is a classic rock/folk rock sort of thing. Still trying to get off the ground, but we're playing Saturday in Waynesboro at SideLines Cafe.

Link Removed is a mostly acoustic folk band with three women doing a lot of vocal harmony stuff. We've got a new CD coming out July 11th. CD release party will be at BelRio. Come say hi if you can!

I never thought I'd play folk/acoustic stuff. I used to be a hard rock/prog rock guy. Now I'm in two folk bands. I choose my bands based on the people in them first and the musical style runs a close second.

No way!

I'm in Zen Daddy, a blues and classic rock cover band. We're playing after the Addison Brady Band at the Que & Cruz BBQ Competition and Classic Car show in Louisa on July 18th.

Our members are stretched out between Ruckersville, Charlottesville, & Palmyra. We play in Richmond a fair amount, as well as Charlottesville, Scottsville, Louisa, Ruckersville, Orange, etc . . .

Link Removed We're also on MySpace and Facebook.

alexandria at the moment...
used to live in clifton (miss those days, you could rent a band house in the woods cheap, now it's million+ homes).
there is an amazing luthier in the lorton area, i highly recommend
him:
larry smoke
Link Removed
a transplant from florida,
he has worked on instruments for some of our heroes...(he is extremely modest).
he is an amazing machinist with a full shop, and can create parts from raw stainless on site.
his instruments are incredible, and his prices extremely fair.
i've had him set up and intonate my vintage hagstroms, and checked out his custom work.
amazing.

Hey man that's cool. I know about you guys as I tried out for Zen Daddy a little over a year ago. Definitely looking forward to hearing you guys. Johnny and Skeeter can really play some guitar.

Good to see my c-ville bretheren on the forum! What sort of music do you play? Are you currently playing with anyone?

My main gig is with Tom Peloso (Modest Mouse) in a project that's still sort of nameless. The record is just under Tom's name and you can find stuff on myspace and at lastsaturdayoftheyear.com

I also play bass with the Brian Patrick Band, and sing in a soul cover band called the Shimmy Shakes.

Speaking of Chester, Virginia, that's where I'm from.

I really like your bands Trey. Great playing too.
Must be interesting being in a band with 4 women.
