Virginia Bassists

I'm in Portsmouth down near VA Beach. I'm not band leader but I step up when others won't. A lot of you guys are in areas a little further north. I have a request. If any of you have played venues at which you think a reggae band would be well received can you message me some names. I'd like to try and book some stuff up north. And of course if we make it to the area I'd love to link up with whoever helped us get there ;)

Cool! My singer/guitarist lives in Portsmouth so I gig there a lot at some small spots.

Hey everyone, new to TB here and just saying hi and adding my name to the Virginia bassist thread. I'm out in the country outside Strasburg in the Shenandoah Valley. Not a whole lot going on in these parts, but it's the sort of place where you can crank up an amp and noodle around without bothering the neighbors. :)

Oh, one thing for any collectors who may happen to pass through this area... there is a fairly new shop in downtown Strasburg called Frets 'n Friends that specializes in rare and vintage stuff. Interesting little shop, they had quite a few surprising items in there.

Sign me up for the VA bass players club - never saw this thread before.

I'm in Reston, VA, which is just outside of Washington, DC, and minutes from Dulles Airport. For those who live south and west of me, my band, Concrete Blues (Concrete Blues) plays frequently in Warrenton, Front Royal and Winchester. They don't seem to want us closer to the DC beltway, although I'd love to get us in rotation at JV's in Falls Church.

Cool, that's where my guitar player is from, and one of the main reasons we get gigs out in Winchester, Front Royal, etc. - he's the one doing the legwork. We have played the Shenandoah Wine and Arts Festival (part of the Apple Blossom Festival) in Winchester every year since 2009.

You're only an hour from me & you're a lot closer to the Classic Axe Gallery in Gainesville.

Classic Axe Guitar Gallery

That's my friend and former guitar player's shop. Lots of cool stuff there. Bought my Rick from there - before he even opened. ;)

Do any of our members know of a bar in Staunton (or Waynesboro, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg) that would be willing to stream Lemmy's funeral services from 6pm - 7:30pm this Saturday evening?

Also, anyone want to join me there?

A bit far for me, plus I'll be camping this weekend near Luray. Hope you find a place and enjoy! I usually avoid the JD on these trips in favor of tequila, but in honor of Lemmy, it'll be JD for me this time! :bassist:

He still plays guitar. :woot:

He's got the most Rickenbackers in one place, in VA, as far as I know:

Hah!! Great picture!

Funny - the 4004 on the far left used to be at his house. I played it there once when he let me current band rehearse in his basement. I wanted to love it, but I didn't dig it. I rummaged around his other cases and found a white w/ white binding 4001 and played that rest of the night. It was cool, but I still like my 4003 better. He has some gems at home.
