I guess I've been hiding under a rock, because I just heard about the Pedaltrain Volto battery pack. Sounds awesome. I want one but need to check something before I buy...

Curious if anyone has run the Volto with a Line6 G50 wireless on their board. I'm sure the Volto works fine with low power, but I think the G50 uses like 300mA. The math says it should work right (say 400 divided into 2000 = 5+ hrs). Just curious about practical experience.

On my Nano board I run -> G50 -> Polytune Mini -> Aguilar TCL comp -> SansAmp BDDI

Ive heard some good things about these power supplies. But, they only go so far of course. If you're only powering a few low MA pedals, it should work great. Other than that though I would think they wouldn't be ideal. Or else you'd see a lot of us using them. Not to knock the product, its just reality.
 
I don't think the G50 uses nearly that much. I have the StageClix Jack and it works fine with 100mA (not the charging though - for that it needs 200+). Invalid Link Removed also confirms that it only uses 143mA. You're good to go.
Mine is G50 not G30, but they can't be that different. I'll check into it more. Thanks for the link.

More or less, as long as the battery is in good shape. I would take off a good 10% off of the original mA rating from the battery for the first year, 20-30% after that until you reach the point where it all goes downhill.

Eneloop also had a similar power supply and it was supposed to be pretty good. But, even a mighty Eneloop battery is at best 80% after two years.

While I had a smaller board, I used a homemade battery pack consisting of AA Eneloop batteries, it worked well. You should get decent times though.
 
I just got a Volto, specifically for running a G50 and although it's early days, so far it does what it says on the tin. Obviously the G50 receiver draws a lot of current compared to regular effect pedals, so I was a bit concerned whether the Volto would be up to the job. I didn't get anywhere near the hours of use that Pedaltrain advertise but I did get a couple of rehearsals out of it, so would now be happy to use it for a show. I was running the G50, a TU3 and a Sansamp Bass Driver with it. The Volto has 3 LEDs to indicate remaining charge. The first one went out after about 40 minutes use. The other 2 stayed on for several hours but then the unit died without first going to one LED. This again is probably due to the amount of current being drawn from the G50. I would therefore recommend that it was fully charged before every use. Pedaltrain say that you can charge the Volto whilst still powering pedals. This didn't work for me but presumably it was because the Volto had gone completely dead and would need to charge for a while before it had enough juice to power the G50. All in all though, I would recommend the Volto, especially if you're like me and you don't like having vulnerable thin charger cables trailing across the front of the stage. Time will tell if the Volto keeps performing well. I'll keep you updated if there are any changes.

Great summary. Thanks for posting. I'm still considering doing this.

How long does it take to charge it? I'm wondering if boosting between sets is practical.
 
They say that it takes 6 hours for a full charge but I've only charged mine once so far because I only got it on Friday. I couldn't tell how long it took because it already had the 3 LEDs lit when I first unwrapped it and turned it on but I still put it on charge for the recommended 6 hours before using it. I'd only just got home from rehearsal today when I put the previous post up and I've not put it on charge yet. I will put it on tomorrow so that I can time it and I'll let you know how long it takes. I'll also check if it will power the pedals whilst it's charging. I'll then let it run down to 2 LEDs and see how long it takes to charge it back up to full.
 
Hey, Sorry for the delay on this. Ok, from completely flat, I put it on charge and within two hours, all three LEDs were lit. Not sure if that meant it was fully charged or not so I still left it on for the recommended six hours. I then took it to the studio and after about thirty minutes use, one LED went out. I then plugged it back in to the mains and was able to carry on using it whilst it charged. I also tested charging it between sets and it went from two bars to three in about twenty minutes. That's not to say that it was full recharged but it does prove that you can boost it up during intervals and it lasted for another couple of hours and was still on two bars when I'd finished for the evening. Hope that helps...
I have two G50 systems, one is usually just kept as a spare/backup. I decided to take my pedal board completely wireless the other day by using one transmitter to send from my bass to the receiver on my pedal board then through the pedals and into the other transmitter which then sent to the other receiver on my amp. It sounded great, there was no loss in tone and freaked the rest of my band out when they could't see any cables at all. Haha, it's magic!! Now if anything goes down on the pedal board, I can quickly change the channel on the second receiver to match the first transmitter and still be linked straight to my amp.

I had thought about the dual wireless set up on a pedal board several times, but never actually tried it. Cool to see that the sound quality was still there for you. I'm surprised no one has tried to market a pedal strictly for this purpose verses using two wireless packs.
 
I think they are super freaking cool and would love to build a mini-board around one. We play in a bunch of small bars over the winter and they have CRAPPY ASS power. This would clearly be the way around that. Even if I had to use two of them.

The rechargeable battery thing makes me nervous, but still it is a super cool idea.
 
I have, just today, set a pedalboard with an Audio Technica stompbox and powerd by a volto. It lasted 5-6 hours today at practise while running a compressor constantly and the od and chorus intermittently. I have added a 10000mAh power pack, theoretically tripling my power capacity, so I should have no trouble getting through the weekend.
 
OK, so I have done my first proper four hour gig with the volto running my wireless and effects, and using the Adata power pack to recharge on the go. By the time I finished packing up, the volto was fully charged and the power pack was showing 3/4 capacity. Awesome. My setup time is now down to as long as takes to plug in my amp, and run the cable from the pedals to the amp.

The 2000mA that Pedaltrain quote for the power it can supply is how much it can output at any one time. To find out how long it'll go on for, you need to find the capacity of the battery which Pedaltrain don't choose to put on their website - I've seen 500mAH cited elsewhere but don't know if that's accurate. Then divide that by the current you're drawing to find the number of hours it'll go for. If it is 500mAH, and you're taking 2000mA out of it (unlikely), it'll last for 15 minutes. Taking a more typical 50mA, that would give 10 hours of life. However, it means that running something like a Line 6 G50 would be rather more limited as that's 350mA.

I run my shure glxd and 4 boss pedals off a one spot and it works great. I never really considered the Volto because I always have my board back next to the drum riser and not out front by the floor monitors. So can just plug the one spot into my furman in my rack and im Good to go.
