Volume pedal for master volume with passive Jazz bass?

Adjusting overall volume on a Jazz with volume-volume-tone on the fly is challenging in any case, but it also changes tone. So, one solution to this is going for a volume-blend-tone configuration of the pots.

A less "invasive" solution is to use a volume pedal as a master volume control. I don't seem to find a lot about that, however. Is that not something people like to use? Are there other drawbacks to using a volume pedal I haven't thought about?

Alternatively, how to do you all address the "VVT challenge" if not by going to VBT or using a volume pedal??

(I think I saw Frans Vollink use a Roland guitar synth interface on his Jazz, mainly (or exclusively) as a volume button...)
