Double Bass Vontietz basses?

More knowledgeable heads should check in here shortly, and more pics would help; but this particular bass suggests a blockless wonder, and it will not be inexpensive to fix those cracks.
Is the bass labelled 'Vontietz'? If so I think there's a good chance that it's a repair label... Maybe see if you can get a picture of it.
as often happens, it could be anything from junk to treasure.
i agree blockless is possible, but it's hard to say. lot of cracks. needs an experienced eye.

The bass in the picture has nice wood, but is very beat-up.
It doesn't look to me like a blockless wonder, but I'm far from an expert.
You should get some great guidance here, but I'd be very careful about investing money in an unknown bass in poor condition. It may not be the bargain it seems by the time you get all problems sorted.

It’s blocked. I’ve seen that style of outline on German basses before. How much?
Gerald Von Tietz is a well-regarded luthier in AZ. It might be his repair label, but I'm reluctant to say he'd let anything like that out of his shop in that condition. It would help to see the label

I agree, looks as possible good potential but hard to tell .
First, $2k is four times what I’d pay for a playable project bass in that condition. It probably needs a lot, and if you don’t do your own work it gets expensive in a hurry.
Second, it just dawned on me who I was responding to and how much it annoyed me that I wasn’t able to buy that funky Italian-looking bass you sold after bringing it up from Argentina all those years ago. How ya been?
