Vote! Highway One Jazz vs. Schecter 004 vs. Geddy Lee Jazz

Geddy Lee for sure, with the Highway One close behind it. Forget about Schecters, I owned one for a while and have played many of them, and they sound bland, lifeless, and empty.

I found a new old 99 USA Jazz for less tha $800.
Passive, plain jane black with white. I chose it over a new Geddy.
Was I lucky?

I love my Geddy. I did take this finish off the back of the neck and it plays much faster now.

I also bought a black pickguard for it. You will have to modify any jazz pickguard you buy though, the white one that comes on it has slightly different specs. I just had to widen a couple of the screw holes on the black pickguard, and also took a bit of where it meets up with the control panel. I also gave the pickguard a brushed/scratched finish.

I have owned a bunch of basses so far, and the Geddy is the only one I will not be willing to part with.

i chose the Highway One over the Geddy recently.
I dont regret my choice at all.
Then again, had i bought the Geddy - I'd probably feel the same way.

NOTE: when it comes to hwy 1 pickups - on this site - people bash the hell out of them - i am having a hard time convincing myself i dont need to swap em out.

like so many others, i dont know much about schecters but i am damn curious about their Diamond Jazz bass - you may want to check that out, its about $450.

Update:

Today I went to the 2 major music stores in my area. One had the Highway One Jazz, the other had the Geddy.
On first playing the Highway One, I noticed it had a similar brightness to the Geddy. The neck was fast and it sounded great. I could get it to growl through a Hartke combo with aggressive playing and the bridge pickup slightly solo'ed. I was also able to get a warm, full tone with the tone all the way closed and the neck pickup solo'ed slightly.
When I went to try the Geddy a couple minutes later at a different store. I realized just how growly it really is. I played through an ampeg B2Re head and 4x10. With the bass boosted, the treble cut slightly, the bridge pickup completely off and the tone knob closed, I still got a big growl and no warm, smooth tone.

I'm still looking at those 2 most and It's going to be a tough decision. The Geddy's neck is great, I love the maple with blocks and it growls for days, but it's really difficult to make it smooth or warm for styles other than rock. The Highway one played great as well and would look great in sunburst with a tort pickguard but doesn't have quite the growl the Geddy has.

I'll have to order a highway one in sunburst in the coming months and then make a final decision. BTW, the newer MIM jazzes are surprisingly nice!

This is a summary of my broad experience with these three basses:

Schecter 004 Bass - never heard of it before
Fender Geddy Lee Jazz - have seen some nice pictures of it
Fender Highway One Jazz Bass - have owned one for about three months.

So, based on my exhaustive research, the Fender Highway One Jazz Bass is the undisputed winner of this contest.

I gotta go with the Geddy and I do love mine. I also haven't had any problem getting
just about whatever I want in terms of what a good J-bass can deliver tone wise.

The newer Highway Ones do seem to be a good value for a U.S. made Fender J.
It's gonna be up to you which bass moves you as a player. Good luck on your decision.

Picked up the Schecter 004 today from GC for 450.00. I played the geddy while I was there and , to me, the schecter outplayed it and sounded better. This thing is awsome.
